Huh, never realized the weather in Stockholm was so different. (Referring to the news that 30-40 cm of snow is more than it's had in a hundred years.)

A bit late, but it's more snow in one go in November than the last hundred years, not more snow in general.

Talking about economic benefit I think you need to separate asylum seekers and other immigration, they're very different things. We can't really tell what the long term economic effects of the last few years massive migration wave. I have seen conflicting arguments for economic benefit and it hurting the economy.

If you want to take in refugees, the humanitarian argument is better than trying to argue that its a net positive for the economy.

How is this conclusion you draw from a term which has been colored by huge and unproportional influence from both V and SD on government policy. V has gotten almost a hundred concrete policy gains through parliament by being kingmaker for the budget and SD has managed to move both S & M to what basically is 75% amalgamations of what SD campaigned on in 2014 without negotiating with anyone. Worse situation? They're both better off than basically ever before and are consistently growing in polling as we get closer to election month.

I doubt people see V as the winners by getting getting their policy in the budget. Actual reforms will probably be attributed to the government for better or worse. V gains ate mostly cause S and MP are hemorrhaging voters now.

I think it's more prevalent in older men; I am 50, and many close colleagues are near my age - we had comments from one senior person in an onboarding session talk about his wife 'you know how *women* get, all emotional and weepy'. I was 'uh, whaaaaat?'. At lunch in the cafeteria, someone referred to a TV presenter who is openly gay as 'that human being' offhandedly - nobody even blinked. The fact that in my department of 60+ people there is exactly one junior female IT architect, and she recently hired *after* I spoke to our SVP about how there were *zero*, on International Women's Day, of all days.

During onboarding, where I was one of the older people present, I made a point of talking to some of the younger hires, many of whom were Danes who had done some school in the USA, how they compared Danish workplace culture to others they knew, and they gave mixed responses - some said it was about the same, others said Denmark was more sexist in the workplace - none said Denmark was *less* sexist. As someone who grew up imagining the Nordics as socialist paradises in the news, I was really, truly shocked. The blatant race-baiting in politics is a part of this to me, I'd never expected.

I'm also not talking to 20-somethings regularly, it's quite possible the younger people have more awareness. I can say their English is far better - many of my 50 year old colleagues have difficulty but a 25 year old graduate will probably be near-native fluency.

I apologize for offending anyone who disagrees, it's just every time a new law punishing immigrants comes out, my feelings about Denmark drop another small notch. I came here with plans to stay, learn Danish, work towards citizenship, the whole thing... and I keep hearing things like this that make me less and less hopeful and excited about the whole project.

Back to discussions of the next law from DF.

This reads like your expectations of Denmark being a socialist utopia with full equality were wrong. There are lovely people everywhere, older generations tend to have more regressive views and say stupid poo poo. Maybe your expectations were too high.
