It's a good critique but I think Chapo's a lot less glib. There's catharsis in stuff like the terrible readings, but when they talk about how the people who planned and sold the iraq war will never be punished for their crimes, it doesn't leave you feeling fulfilled.

They knew exactly why she was trying to wedge republicans on racism, they just cruticised the absurdity of it targeted at bush and coming from a Clinton, and discussed it as an attempt to push the democrats rightward by taking on 'moderate' republicans like Paul Ryan and Kissinger and keeping progressive votes captive. There's also way more to feminism than empty representation with no structural reform or policy, and there's lots of room for criticism of Hillary from that perspective.

Pretty much, you can find trolls of any stripe but there was never an amount of those for Bernie that was worth writing piles of articles about, and it was used to gloss over a lot of left-wing criticism and ignored POC supporting him. It was especially surreal when you had people like Peter Daou, who bragged about their time in a fascist militia or white dudes telling muslim women to stop being Bros. Mostly it was that mspaint comic of people yelling at hitler. I guess reddit got weird about it but who cares. Maybe Chapo counts to other people, I dunno.

I'm sorry to have such a basic question, but have you tried unsubscribing in the app and re-entering the patreon feed details? I just switched to a different app that it worked on (Podkicker). I think there's a version issue where you need to change the url to have your username and password on anything before 3.8, but I couldn't get that to work anyway so eh.

The Ross Douthat saga, in episodes 3 and 30 are great readings from a conservative pundit's embarrassing biography. 38 is a great piece of reporting about Nike's industrial processes if you're looking for them on something more feminist-inclined, and also has them mocking pundits for getting stuck in elevators constantly. I really enjoyed episode 42, which is about theranos and the SF tech scene. There's also the loving incredible Killer App trailer.

Hillary's loss is more of a massive strategic failure than a total rejection of liberalism. She wasn't a good candidate but she could have easily won by not pissing money away and doing a normal ground-game.

padijun posted:here's what I'm still having problems squaring as a junior leftist who got "woke" when I first saw the bernie poo poo on reddit and GBS like a year ago I wouldn't worry about this to be honest. Unless poo poo gets really loving nuts with a full-on armed revolution or massive resource crisis it's not going to come up. If there's a change of systems (and there probably won't be) it's going to be slow, and since most commies are 22 year old uni students they won't want to blow their support base by taking away the big tvs. I don't think you'd even have to do much taking, since there's so much poo poo everywhere at this moment. There's more empty houses than homeless people in most major cities, and we make a lot of poo poo. The Elites taking away your stuff is also true of capitalism, it's just this time it's the Landlord getting rent, your boss exploiting you for profit and all the other ways people take money from you. quote:-mao's greatest hits are the cultural revolution, the great leap forward, and the four pests campaign, all of which left millions dead? am I supposed to buy into this guy's ideas? if not, who do I turn to? If you ever see anyone praise Mao in your day to day life, jump out of the window. I really wouldn't get too heavy into theory, it's mostly philosophers who want to diagnose capitalism rather than talk about what to do, and there's probably not going to be a point in the forseeable future where the difference between splits of commies will matter. Just doing politics will teach you the important stuff. quote:e: actually the biggest one, I'm all in with this socialism thing, but when I see people advocating for communism, that old chestnut of "~but communism has never actually worked IRL~" runs through my head The important question is why they didn't work. Is it inherent problems with marxist ideology, or is it stuff like the grind of the cold war, assassinations of important figures and coups, incredibly stupid leaders in an overly centralized structure, or whatever. I don't want to apologise for the Purges or the Great Leap Forward but they aren't something inevitable under socialism. There's so many loving isms around but we've only seen 1 approach fail, so try not to lump everything under that umbrella. It's not like capitalism is working so great anyway.
