Have any of you tried forcing the sound into mono (iPhone settings under accessibility)? I found that it helps. Part of the problem is that they do some weird panning of each voice, particularly when there's a guest on.

Not only did they have a not have a good ground game, their guiding philosophy was apparently the opposite of having a good ground game. - Trying to play mind games with Trump's campaign by spending or not spending money in some states regardless of whether that money actually did anything - Discouraging canvassing/door-knocking GOTV and ignoring requests for that kind of support in FL and MI in favor of huge amounts of TV ad spending in non-competitive media markets - Dumping money into cities in non-competitive states to drive up urban turnout just to avoid the embarrassment of Clinton losing the popular vote while winning the electoral college Jesus gently caress, keep Robby Mook and his minions away from any other campaign ever again. Maybe one small silver lining is that Clinton didn't manage to eke out a win in spite of these colossal fuckups and someone who is not directly in that campaign's orbit will learn a thing or two from this.

I don't completely buy the narrative that Tom Perez is a Clintonite out to sabotage the Bernie wing of the party (there's another Clinton guy in the running, can't remember his name), but the degree to which some of these people blame Sanders for Clinton losing is alarming both for the sake of having a decent party and from a mental health standpoint.

Yeah, maybe 6 months ago I'd have agreed with the whole "provoke him into saying something so horrible that he'll tank his whole campaign" strategy but I think we have solid evidence that it doesn't work so well.

This depresses me; please tell me they haven't said terrible things about John Oliver? I think they rip on him for the "Drumpf" thing at least once, but if they do mention him other than that it's just as a more general critique of liberal TV comedian-pundits. I believe Will said he's never actually seen the show. Drumpf aside, LWT has some really fantastic reporting and explanatory segments that aren't the kind of thing the Chapo guys hate, and I wouldn't be surprised if they actually liked it given the chance.

For most people the best route is to steer them to less lovely versions of what they like because as soon as you go 'capitalism makes monsters of us all' they're gonna tune out. Yeah, I'm all for boycotting as many lovely companies as possible, but the idea that you're persuading anyone or even remotely advancing toward the goal of Full Socialism Now by acting holier-than-thou at 95% of the public for their consumption choices is pretty dumb and in all likelihood deeply hypocritical e: reminds me of the time I was standing in line at a movie theater in Berkeley and a self styled activist guy thought it would be a really great idea to stand there and yell at the theater patrons for half an hour "HOW CAN YOU STAND THERE AND PAY TO WATCH A MOVIE WHEN THERE'S SO MANY HOMELESS PEOPLE" SousaphoneColossus fucked around with this message at 17:42 on Feb 5, 2017 |

Under the vegetable posted:you can still call a cab. if a union is striking it's generally good to support the strike rather than actively condemn one company for profiting off of the strike while actively advertising for another company for doing the exact same thing. Uber was intentionally/directly profiting off the strike and Lyft wasn't, and even pledged money to the ACLU. I don't like or use either company because they're anti-union but it's a false equivalence to say they are doing the same thing. edit: I understand the impulse to criticize both companies, but where does it end? Do you berate people for shopping at non-union Trader Joe's or Whole Foods when there are unionized grocery stores like Safeway, for example? Scolding people for their consumption habits is not only a bad strategy but it's (intentionally or unintentionally) a stalking horse for promoting sustainable capitalism as much as anything. Aside from hardcore history a few years back, Chapo is the only podcast I'd listened to, so the frequent product endorsements are a little grating, but that may be the norm. They seem to all be gradually getting disillusioned with the dems, with Lovett being the most angry. Pretty much any well-known podcast that isn't supported by a patreon or some other direct funding has tons of ads these days. I have about 20-25 subscriptions and chapo might be the only one that doesn't have some kind of ad read at the top and/or in the middle.
