I'm very interested in the MGS series, but frankly don't have time to play all the games and don't particularly want to play really old games. Is there a particular LP that's ideal for experiencing the first games, and any particularly good sites/threads/whatever for analysis?

Poking around online reveals this fandom stuff that seems to miss any actual analysis. Like I get that Johnny Sasaki is a joke on the concept of the invincible super-soldier, but the MGS wikia just humourlessly documents his struggles with IBS throughout the series.

that poster chip cheezum does really thorough lps of them all and shows off as much content as you could ask for. in terms of analysis, there is basically no good critical analysis of MGS published anywhere. the book ashly and anthony burch wrote is unbelievable trash.

lmfao the whole point is that most gamers idea of consumer protections is pressuring steam to release hentai videogames without the need to crack open up the nude scenes themselves. if they actually organized around busting monopolistic control in games it'd be great. Jim Sterling at least does some of this but of course he takes massive heat from half the drat "gamer community" whenever he criticizes a zelda or something.

maybe if jim sterling would stop wearing an insane cartoon fascist costume people would take him more seriously

Consumer's rights as far as self identified gamers are concerned are more about their own satisfaction with their purchases than it has anything to do with actually protecting consumers. The people who believe their rights are being violated because the new mass effect wasn't what they wanted it to be, doesn't give a poo poo about consumer advocacy outside of whatever they are outraged about this week.

The new mass effect being a fundamentally broken product is a legitimate complaint.

Like Chapo should probably hire an audio guy or spend ten minutes figuring out how to mix Matt's audio into the show properly if they're going to be making a million dollars a year or whatever ludicrous dollar amount this podcast pulls in.

The thing that bothers me about stuff like the free-to-play model is that it's a way for large companies to condition consumers to expect and accept the annoying aspects of that model even in a totally different model. Like, I should not see constant in-game advertising for microtransactions in a game I paid for.

This is not a super big deal in video games, but while I'm at a loss for easy analogies at the moment, I feel like there are a lot of other markets where consumers just get conditioned to being jerked around, buried in advertising, and given worse-than-useless customer support.

All streaming services, tv, going to a theater, car insurance, health insurance, insurance in general, credit cards, subscription based services in general,

Nobody is saying that, we are just pointing out that the inclusive and woman friendly gamergate movement sent 10000 tweets a day to Nintendo and outed her as a sex worker for the crime being a female employed by them.

She was using official Nintendo merch in her sex worker photo shoots and name-dropping them on her escort page. It's pretty reasonable to fire her for that.

That article doesn't mention that the moonlighting she was doing was porn, and the "controversial thesis" she wrote was literally in defense of child porn.

I mean, yeah, that was only discovered because the Gamergate started digging into her past because of some wierd controversy about the translation of Fire Emblem, but that doesn't mean that Nintendo wasn't completely right to not want her associated with their products.

Oh yeah she was also publicly defending child pornography on her main Nintendo linked twitter that's true. Say what you want about the situation that was a justified firing.

I'm pretty sure if you're in a youth facing branch of Nintendos localization team with active social media presence for NoA you shouldnt be posting pics of a Nintendo 3DS blocking your nipples on backpage. The backpage part isn't an issue, it's the using Nintendo products to sell a third party service that's an issue.

Is there any evidence Nintendo even found out about it through the gamergate people?
