The prequels are not just dumb and not good plot-wise, they are just terribly made. They push CGI way too hard for the time period, the pacing is horrific, the dialogue is godawful (Lucas manages to make very good actors very boring), etc. Ewan mcgregor and Samuel Jackson are both boring as poo poo, that alone is enough to impinge the prequels.
