i bought a LG nexus 5x off a fellow goon recently, and today i got it activated with t-mo. i have now finally joined the ranks of the smartphone-havers. this is my old phone. it's a samsung sgh-x495: it was very sturdy. i've dropped it quite a few times onto bare concrete. the worst that ever happened was the battery popped off once or twice. no big deal. i got it roughly ten years ago. i still have a text message on there from 2007. why is this notable? the sgh-x495 has a maximum text message capacity of 230 text messages; 30 on the SIM card and 200 on the phone. it also supports java. what prompted me to quit it after ten years of chugging along like a champ? well, aside from the battery losing its stoutfulness (i used to only have to recharge it like once a week? now it's every 2.5, 3 days tops), the text messaging was just getting too frustrating. you see, it does text messages like email - you open a text, you read it, and then maybe you hit reply and then you compose a text message. if someone texts you while you're composing, you can't see it unless you quit out of the text message composer. very inconvenient when the other person is banging away like it's a chat thread. i stubbornly held out long enough. i had my fun being that guy who doesn't have a smartphone. now i'm ready to reap the fruits of all those good bye, little samsung. it's been fun.

My house came with an expensive Samsung refrigerator and it broke after less than three years. I refuse to believe anything Samsung makes lasted for ten years.

you can also just go into any Apple store and tell them you got a new phone but forgot the SIM card. they'll give you a new one for free.
