Yesterday I finished up a major video essay on the relative weaknesses of S11 and S12: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlWesQinQD8 TL;DW is that wow were they rushed. I can't believe they let Jonah straight up say 'we were filming two episodes a day' in the Netflix making of documentary. Thank god the Gizmoplex seems to be getting everything back on track. Really hope there's going to be a season 14.

Clouseau posted:Also in the video a Bonnaroo reference was stated as proof that the writing got too bougie which idk, its a fairly popular music festival. Maybe I'm just a bougie guy, but it doesn't seem really out of step for them to reference it. They open Pod People with an Art Chautauqua sketch! I might have been a little oversensitive to music festivals, admittedly I've never been to it myself but as an Austin resident the research i did on it gave me ACL vibes in terms of the tone and pricing. Probably should have gone with the Aspen reference elsewhere in Cry Wilderness instead. Sardonik fucked around with this message at 03:40 on Dec 22, 2022 |

You have to drill down on the 'Purchased' tab, which doesn't always seem to show up, for me at least. I think there's a similar dynamic on the website too. It Chromecasts fine though, to be sure.

And yeah that comment is wild, I hadn't even considered that there would be teams of writers working under the credited writers. Now I'm wondering what the true writer count for Cry Wilderness might have been. S13 definitely gives me a lot of hope for S14 so I hope to be able to make a very positive gizmoplex-centric follow up down the line. I'm guessing it's just a lot of profoundly juvenile gamergate types because to me she seemed to be nailing it throughout the series.

I'll cop to liking Tormented. Unlike essentially every other movie MST3K has done, there's an actual dramatic tension. Though still not executed particularly well.

I'll be the first to admit that modern MST3K has had problems. But in terms of the riffing quality I genuinely believe 13's riffs are evidence it's getting better, and they deserve the chance of at least one more season. Especially if they can dial back some of the more chaotic aspects of 13, all the copies of crow and tom and all. Maybe they should pick a single host and set of bots and go with it.
