If you have emulator rips or youtube downloads of these then get them again from here, the sound is a little different.

The gems of my collection. The Sonic gems collection, if you will.

Sonic 3 cover slip signed by Jun Senoue. In this game he did the gumball machine bonus stage music. You know how the music for the bonus stage goes way longer than you could actually stay in it? He was brought onto the project very late to fill in this small gap in the music.

Sonic 1 is signed by Shinya Arino, the Game Center CX Kachou, from when he did the San Francisco trip. We also exchanged business cards! :3:

Sonic Crackers reproduction cartridge. I couldn't settle on the Genesis cover or Mega Drive cover so I printed both. If you try to play the game on a real system it will crash on the title screen after a second due to an audio programming issue. You must start the game quickly, making level select or 2-player difficult.
I showed Jun Senoue Sonic Crackers on a PSP and he flipped out that the game was still in existence anywhere. He was very tight-lipped about my questions regarding it and Knuckles Chaotix. He demanded we take a picture together and I will make sure no one ever sees it because I am making the dumbest face. He also gave me a guitar pick with lives in the Sonic 3 box.

Thanks for reading!

Oh man so much so. This is the best description of it I've ever read.

If you overclock then this no longer lags, and sonic losing 100 rings runs about the same as losing 10. Those are the biggest changes you would ever notice though - Treasure games have the lag programmed in and don't really benefit.

There are so many good ones! I'm most impressed when they go all out with new artwork, levels, enemies, bosses, music, etc. My all-time favorite might be Sonic 1 Brother Trouble.

Other notables are The S Factor: Sonia and Silver, Mobius Evolution, Sonic 1 CD edition, Pantufa the Cat, Socket the Hedgeduck, there are so many and things have been impressive in recent years.

In last year's Sonic hacking contest there were great hacks including a short one I can't find again with a visually amazing boss, Sonic Back 2 The Future with CD-style time travel to go between 16-bit and 8-bit versions of levels, Sonic 1 Warped World, and Sonic 3 and Knuckles: Chaotix Edition which does what it says on the box. There are many more I have not tried.

The thread is a fun read, and features a bunch of internet archeology.

Jesus loving christ!! It all makes sense now. Clackers.

It's funny to look into Sonic Crackers / Knuckles Chaotix stuff to see my name dropped and old research linked. I was trying to find some unused sprites from the latter on tcrf.net and realized they weren't there because I had discovered them and therefore should loving re-upload them myself.

The OP in that thread theorized that Sonic Clackers (just typing that... wow) was a prank by demo sceners. Aside from that being absurd from a technical standpoint, Jun Senoue (special thanks in Chaotix's credits) has admitted to playing it before.

What a nostalgia trip.

New record at Hill Top 1 / Marble Garden 1. Finishing Chemical Plant or even Aquatic Ruin 1 before Angel Island makes Hydrocity much easier. It's always possible to play for time in safer spots and levels, but since Sonic has a time limit, with Sonic 3 counting down faster, there is a bit of time management there.

I'm coming along in the Sonic 2 & 3 one-input attempts. The current strat is to get Emerald Hill 1 in under 30 seconds to get the continue, get perfects in each easily accessible Angel Island and Hydrocity special stage, and then baby Sonic 2 while tanking hits and kills in 3. I recently found a way to prevent the Chemical Plant 2 water level from rising which has been a huge help. Current best is Oil Ocean 1 and Marble Garden 1, which is well beyond the current TAS attempt. I use glitches to save time and skip stuff, special stages both for continues and to stall for time, but no pause desync.

Thanks for reading.

VVV I do stream on twitch unscheduled. If I'm ever particularly happy with an attempt I will upload it on my youtube. Most recently I got further than ever in Sonic 2, but was frustrated with Sonic 3 and don't think it's a very watchable run after Hydrocity 2. I think I found a good balance for streaming quality though.

Didn't we just have a Sonic game where you spend a bunch of time waiting for the grapple to finish, mow down a room full of enemies, and then repeat? I'm not calling cycle here, but I'm expecting a third wheel of weaker gameplay.

Why did Oc the Character have to bind the enemy in the trailer? Sonics just when straight through it. I highly doubt the player will be doing that too.

This is what it is. Seven minutes of gameplay shows off a not-insignificant amount of content from a 1-2 hour game. I'm hoping that when I play it I'll at least be surprised by one zone name, but I'm not holding my breath. For similar reasons I expect it to get released not more than a month after a date is fixed.

I like the Sonic Heroes special stages for the fast paced action, rad throwback concept, collecting big strings of spheres links, and organic use of the character switching. Then your characters get stuck up on the wall somehow and you lose. It's totally unplayable and easily the best part of Heroes (PS2). The intersection of neat speedy ideas and hosed up execution is like Sonic games in a nutshell.

I'm not a comic person but I read the first two Mega Drive comics recently. They were really fun, charming, and funny. I don't get why each part is volume #1 but that's okay.

So then out of curiosity I picked up the Mega Man and Sonic crossover set and it's super weird. Each chapter re-introduces each character and has a bunch of asterisks with editor's footnotes on where to read the reference. It makes sense for past comics but that's already gratuitous. In an omnibus version I don't see why these couldn't be edited out when it's something I just saw. Maybe it's just a comic books thing? Much of the presentation is of course designed to sell more comics. Sonic's side seems stuck in the story of the TV show from 20 years ago for some reason, but like, all the games still happened or something. Between the really specific references from games on both sides and submitted fan art from elementary school kids, I have no idea who that comic is even for. Fun in some ways, but not my thing.
