This game has some really clever level design. I just finished Flying Battery zone and I'm shocked at how fresh all the re-imagined levels are.

Beat it, and what an absolute joy it was to play. Level design was great, and I loved how much character was put into the game. Was only able to get 3 emeralds. Special Stages are far more difficult than they appear. One of my favorite moments was turning the tide on Eggman in Hydrocity Act 1, and using the boss mobile from Sonic 3. That was so satisfying, and Eggman's diver outfit was amazing. Regarding some returning levels Never would've expected Oil Ocean & especially Metallic Madness to return. MM was always the weakest final level in the classic series, and somehow they turned it into one of the best levels in the game. Loved jumping between the background & foreground. Which is just such a great evolution from the revolving panels from the original level. Sonic Mania rules, and now I have to catch that drat fourth Chaos Emerald.

The Barrel is really unintuitive, especially since you can bounce on it to gain momentum. Pretty messed up they lock you in a room with it.

I preferred not rolling in the Genesis games as a kid. Sonic just looked cooler running. In Mania, would constantly use the drop dash. It was a great addition to Sonic’s move-set.
