Hello yes I heard there was a lovely trainwreck here and...

I don't know where the hell the Republican party will actually go after Trump (presuming he doesn't actually become Emperor of the World like he thinks he will). People have said Ted Cruz but he doesn't have any reality entertainment appeal which I can't help but think will just kill enthusiasm from the Trump demographic and make it pretty hard for him to do as well if there's even one person trying the same routine as Trump in 2020. Is this gonna be the jump-the-shark moment for GOP presidential bids for however long it takes for them to pivot out of the Southern Strategy?

Huh, I just reminded myself of the whole 'still need a 9th supreme court justice' thing. Did Congress really not let Obama appoint someone? And won't Hillary just nominate the same person anyways?

This Morning Joe segment on Trump flip-flopping on Putin is a better editing job than anything Daily Show or Last Week Tonight had ever done.

Interesting for Fox to say, considering they ran a Benghazi ad over his speech

They know enough to know what Trump is saying and doing is wrong, and yet they are still supporting him.

Why? Because we are never compelled by our ideals like we are by our loves. And when you look at Donald Trump through the shared loves of the evangelical Culture, he starts to make perfect sense.

Evangelicals don’t believe in Donald Trump as much as they love Donald Trump and all that Donald Trump represents. Watch these rallies and you will quickly see they have nothing to do with inspiring ideas and hopeful policies; they’re worship services. And standing on the stage before the great throng of longing souls is the manifestation of their common love feeding their hungry hearts with his nonsense.

I'd love to agree but a) they still vote so an argument they'll accept for not voting straight R this time is good in my book and b) I'm stuck with family who are in this headspace so yeah. It may not do any good anyway but I'm glad to be able to pass it on at any rate for whatever good it will do.

FYI "gold star" isn't an award, it means that the family lost a member serving the country and could display a gold star on their service flag in lieu if the regular colored one.

And more importantly, Trump heavily implied that the mother was not allowed to speak by the father because ~islam~ and she responded in a written statement the obvious reason: it's still to painful for her to talk about it especially in a huge arena full of people. Then she dunks all over Trump some more and it's glorious.

Yeah, that's the right move by them. There's nothing left for them to say; if Trump keeps talking about it he just keeps digging himself into a hole; and reporters might even respect their wish and leave them in peace, and if anyone keeps harassing them about it they have the high ground.

Besides, they must have already gotten a truckload of death threats.

There's also the danger that it devolves into a he said/he said type of thing (even though the Khans are absolutely in the right), if it's ginned up for too long. If it's just Trump tilting at windmills it reflects worse on him ("Why won't he leave those Gold Star parents alone?").

Edit: gently caress, it's already getting there with AP calling it a "feud." It's not a feud, it's a family who lost a son being chain-insulted by a presidential candidate.
