Check out the compendium Race in Early Modern England by Ania Loomba and Jonathan Burton; it's mostly a collection of primary sources and it's easy to pick out tropes from modern mainstream racist discourse in these texts from, like, 1430. It's commonly available in university libraries, and you can easily find a PDF of the whole thing online. Class issues are obviously important, but they're not anywhere near the only thing that drives American racism. Eating the rich is of course a very good goal but it's not gonna kill racism in the cradle. Also, gently caress an Eric Trump for saying his sister would choose not to be sexually harassed. I guaran-goddamn-tee that she has been sexually harassed at least twice a week every week of her life since she's turned ten, because that's the reality for women, especially women whose male social circle consists mainly of silver-spoon entitled brats who can use their trust funds to make rape accusations go away. I still don't understand how facebook trends work (are they personalized? idk), but my top trend in both the Top Trend and Politics sections is "Melania Trump." Because she possibly came to the US illegally. Her statement refuting Politico's accusations was just repeating "I wasn't here illegally" (on twitter) without saying what kind of visa she was on. And any credibility she has regarding her past is shot anyways given the degree thing. Aaaand I see outlets that are not Politico and HuffPo are talking about it. Please, Election Santa, give this to me. Give me proof that Melania Trump committed visa fraud. I've been so good this year.

Today, in trolling: Ivanka bought some jewelry and the designers donated the proceeds to Hillary. I'm checking out their website and drat, girlfriend is budget shopping. I have a couple pieces of jewelry of comparable price and I barely make a living wage. Lovely, my alma mater is getting in trouble because they're offering a diversity course for RAs. But when I was last there, there was a huge controversy because the liberal student newspaper published an editorial claiming that doing blackface for Halloween was about as racist as dressing up as an Oompa-Loompa. That led to the (few) black staff on the paper resigning in protest. The conservative student newspaper (the Review, who first reported on the story) likes to make rape jokes on its covers and accuse protesting black students of being Marxists. Bing has a pretty diverse student body with a lot of resources - lots of exchange students from India and South Korea, one of the only Arabic majors at a public school in the country, lots of kids from poor families in New York City - but all my RAs were white, and I had black friends with very serious complaints about how they were treated by faculty. Bing also has the typical institutional bad-at-handling-on-campus-sexual-assault problem, to the point of having an open Title IX investigation in 2014. But having the RAs recognize these issues and get the tools to deal with them is bad because cultural marxism or something.
