Figured I'd post here too, trying to get the NES classic got me to play with my Raspberry Pi for a bit.

Are there any actual high quality NES or SNES replica controllers? People's posts here and in the video games thread got me to hook up my Raspberry Pi and it just doesn't feel the same playing Mario with a PlayStation controller.

It works, but the quality just feels shoddy and cheap compared to a genuine SNES controller. Though to be fair, I mostly used the NES versions. I'll dig it back out and play with it a bit.

So upon digging it up, it turns out that I don't have that particular one. Though Amazon showed I ordered it, it appears I actually got this one. Reviewing my 2 year order detail it was sold by a third party so yay for me not noticing.

I ordered the Buffalo one, it does look to be reviewed better than the Retrolink one.

Man I forgot about that. How could I forget every playing session beginning with a giant chunk of time kicking a Linda, moving, kicking her again, repeat until a short time left.

That and Rygar, which started with my NES Advantage rubber banded down with auto fire on to kill a set of infinitely respawning mobs and then walking away for a half hour to come back with max power ups

I don't know if it's okay to talk about emulators and roms here since it's technically :files: but what is the best way to take a messy giant dump of roms with miscellaneous variations and whittle it down to a manageable list? Scrolling through 30 variations of Super Mario World is a pain in the tush.

I actually kind of liked the SNES X-Men game, can't remember exactly what it was called, where it was a side scroller but instead of limited "mutant" resources like in the Genesis games you had to do Street Fighter button combinations to do your attacks.

I guess I could Google it myself, but it's that in some way related to Leather Goddesses of Phobos? I remember that was THE dirty game back in the day.

For slightly less, the Buffalo SNES pads are supposed to be really good.

I bought a few of them about 5 years ago when I was building a HTPC. 2 of the NES ones, two of the SNES ones. Goal being to have as legit an experience as possible when playing emulated games.

The quality was bad. Couldn't even get past 1-1 in Super Mario Brothers due to the combination of bad buttons and input lag delay on my TV. Maybe they have gotten better since.

Then the Chromecast came out and my need for an HTPC dropped so it's been unused since.

Now I have a RetroPi and the 8bitdo SNES controller and it's awesome (one you get it configured with the various emulators)

I was still pretty young and didn't know about Street Fighter 2 until it came out on SNES. A few friends and I went to the local video game rental store and they had it set up to play. We must have spent two hours fighting each other, then some dude asked if he could play and HE STARTS THROWING FIREBALLS HOLY poo poo. We were having fun just punching and kicking each other, had no idea there were secret codes to do secret moves.

Eternal Champions was potentially a fantastic game. It had rich character storylines, great stage fatalities that were tough to get, and really cool character design. Then they screwed it up by making the controls weird button combos and special moves limited. Designed for the failed before it launched Activator. Seriously, whoever came up with that said "Remember how successful the Power Glove was? Let's make something that's harder to use!

Also it was hard as hell.

I'd love to see a remake that uses traditional 6 button fighting game controls and limit the "chi" to super versions of the moves.

Yeah, The Room is considered the weakest of the Japanese-made SH games, but once Origins and Homecoming came out people suddenly became a lot less negative about it. I also can't take anything named "The Room" seriously at this point. (Oh hai Henry! Don't be going out, huuuh?)

Silent Hill in general is not a game that is well known for its actual gameplay - it's more of a clumsy interactive movie. The Room is a great game concept and has a genuinely spooky atmosphere. The main reason it's given poo poo is because of the second half being an escort mission back through the levels you already did. There are cool aspects of that, you meet someone on each run through the first time that is murdered and the second time you encounter their ghosts, which are all unique and generally a pain in the rear end.

I think it's actually a very good game, it just suffers from being not as good as 1-3 story wise.

I was just talking to a friend last night about my gaming systems growing up. I sold my NES and a bunch of games to get a TurboGrafx 16, and of course regretted it. Later I sold my SNES and games to Funcoland for enough store credit to get WWF WrestleMania for the PlayStation. Obviously that was a huge regret.

Between that and selling all my Transformers, GI Joe's and Star Wars figures, I have a lot of remorse which has led to never selling anything now. Even if it sits in storage untouched, it's there. I'm not so hard up for cash that I need to sell my gaming stuff so I just keep it to avoid future possible regret. :)

Still playing Might and Magic. My characters have reached level 7 and I've reached a point where the explosion of directions I can go in has become pretty overwhelming. Every dungeon and town has portals to other dungeons and towns and you can wander all of the place. I've got a dozen maps less than half filled in from sticking my nose into places and then getting kicked out. I found the merchant pass that lets me into castles to get quests, but the first quest I took seems to be pretty nasty to get into. I also found a hermit that offered to trade; saying yes took all of my inventory items away and gave me some pirate maps. Since I had significant items in my inventory when that happened, I just had to reload.

There's too many useless spells in the game. I've gotten spells that do 1d30 damage, but there's plenty of spells that do something like (level)d4 damage and are statistically better.

I have a real problem with mapping:

I actually have two cats and they fight over getting to sleep on my maps and pad.

I feel this post, I had a binder full of Might and Magic 2 maps. Which led to mapping out EverQuest, such was a nightmare.
