Paul Wall went into business with a jewelry store that we did commercials for. The guy that ran the store was (I think) a Vietnamese immigrant named Johnny Dang, aka TV Johnny. He had a little shop in the local mall, but found his niche making grills and gaudy necklaces for rappers.

All of the telephone lines are down

This is where drug dealers take the cheap, plastic Bic lighters and take them apart. Wash them out and rig them to put crack and coke in them. They would fill them up and sell them individually like you would do in baggies, only when you're holding a lighter it looks less suspicious than holding a bag or vile. They would just pass them off, hand to hand
or someone would ask to borrow a lighter. Hence 25 lighters means someone's got 25 viles to sell, hence the "Got's to get paid" part.

Video shot after Fat Pat died, thus his appearance is just stock footage. I met his brother Big Hawk before he died, too.

Edit: UGK in the big time:

Here's Hawk in another Houston classic. I don't even remember how many times we aired this video. It was awkward putting it in the show in the aftermath of 9/11 due to the exploding buildings:

I've been kicking myself for not mentioning the Geto Boys. We did tons of interviews with Scarface. He was a pain in the neck to arrange a meeting with. We had an impromptu lunch with him in a private room in Pappadeaux's once, though. Bushwick Bill is also just as crazy in real life as his reputation suggests. He's had a crazy life.

L O L

Watching Paul Wall's "Sittin' Sidewayz" he name-checks Big Bank Hank. I have no idea what his business was but he was the kind of guy who showed up to a club with a literal pimp cup. I saw him bring that huge bejeweled thing into the club to be filled with whatever and drank it out of a straw.

I see angels and they sing to me,
They would like to see us all in prosperity,
But theres problems in this fantasy,
Take for example this economy,
Too many options makes inefficiency,
Like wise not enough and well be left holding our cheese,
I'd be easy if my options were to breath, drink and eat,
I'd laugh, love, and be a better man and skip on the infidelity,
maybe then I wouldn't have been impeached,
and then maybe we wouldn't have lost two great ones in capitalisms infancy,
we'd all be better off, not having these invalid thoughts,
but who wouldn't take it all back,
every mistake sets us just that much farther back,
maybe well start by not second guessing,
but third guessing so we know before we act.
