ninjahedgehog posted:To his credit, apparently he did his research and actually started writing a Strangereal-set story before Project Aces told him that they wanted Generic Military Story and that's what they hired him for. Still, I will say that it could've been a lot worse: I actually like Bishop as a character and what they do with his nightmare/tutorial level, while it does have the overused ultranationalists take over Russia they don't do this easily and you get a fair few missions alongside the loyalists, the soundtrack is great and the gameplay had the potential of being different but good. Also it's the only Ace Combat to have been released on PC and I genuinely like the Moscow helo level.

Lunethex, in that Assault Horizon mission you don't fly an AC-130: you fly the B-1B Lancer, one of the coolest and most under-represented supersonic bombers still in active service and one of the reasons it's not a bad game.

Cooked Auto posted:Pretty sure you can switch between the B1 and the B2 in that bomber mission actually. Besides I like the Lancer better.

I really don't understand your dislike for the F-5. The return line and how missions are structured is why of the games in the PS2 trilogy, 4 rates the lowest for me; granted, part of the reason is that I played 4 after having played 5 and Zero, but while I still really like it I find that the latter two are just better overall.

ACES CURE PLANES posted:And that mission is what got me into going into Ace difficulty with woefully underequipped planes. It's probably my favorite mission in the series.

NobleSixFour posted:Okay, so after talking with Crow a bit, I am proud to announce that me LPing Assault Horizon is officially going to be a thing. I have all the hardware, and most of it is set up, so I hope to start recording footage sometime within the next few days. I was thinking of doing the PC version, but if for whatever reason there was sufficient outcry I could supplement that with the 360 version. Additionally, I know that Crow et al did show off multiplayer and a tiny bit of coop at one point, but if there's interest in a more detailed look at it than that, I'd love to get some names of people who would be into providing the other warm bodies for that.

I'm going to go with hubris, not expecting that the ISAF would send an escort all the way into controlled territory and possibly that Stonehenge requires time to prep before it can hit an area. Most of the ISAF victories seem to stem from Erusea underestimating them: sending a relatively small and poorly-escorted bomber squadron to deal the final blow, focusing everything on their "Invincible Fleet" and then losing it, keeping the Yellow squadron in reserve; as such I wouldn't be surprised if they thought that the interceptors they sent would've been more than enough to do the job and that there was no reason to involve Stonehenge in shooting down a couple of planes and one lone fighter that made its way to them. Though, granted, if it had been any other pilot than Mobius 1 they probably would've been right, but by now they must've noticed the fighter with the ribbon insignia.

I'm also EU-based but given my current sleep schedule I can be a bit flexible when it comes to when to play.

An addendum to the Ka-50 write-up: it was the first helicopter that entered service with a fully working ejection seat and it and the Ka-52 are the only heloes to have such an escape system for their crew.

nine-gear crow posted:Dang. I did not know that. I've added it to the post. Thanks! And for those wondering, the system works by having the rotor blades detach (I believe using explosive bolts) from the assembly and then activating the ejection seat which will hopefully allows the pilot enough clearance for the parachute to open.

Congratulations on finishing this game as well and I can't wait for you to start on Ace Combat 5 proper, which is my overall favourite game in the series.
