some years ago I started having knee pain during runs and the doc said that there is nothing to be done and I should run less. instead I started squatting and shortly after the pain went away forever. everyone who doesn't believe in the power of squat is lying to themselves. your matchstick legs are a self-delusion.

squats are fine if you have proper form it's not that complicatedcanpakes posted:Lmao at the idea that injury can be avoided with "the right form." There is no "right form" of totally unnatural lifts that the body is not meant to do involving the absurdly complex and wear-probe knee joints never mind the loving spinal column. Literally every decent lifter is a walking list of health problems because of these two dumb exercises in particular, aka the Reddit goon exercises. "absurdly complex" we're not talking about professional lifters you retards we're talking just normal exercise. don't slam 2-3 plates onto your squat bar and you'll be fine.

Toadvine posted:I tore my meniscus playing soccer one summer at camp, that sucked and has made me extremely wary of pushing my leg(s) too far. Leg press is probably much worse for your knees if you have an injury, since at least with squats there are a bunch of other muscles limiting how heavy you can go and maintain form. With leg press it's just your legs, so people are much more likely to go too heavy too fast.

if you have enough oxygen in your brain to worry about whether or not your knees are locking out and proper form you quite obviously aren't lifting heavy enough

Don't be that top-heavy guy with toothpick legs, OP. That said, low weights, hi reps. Our legs weren't designed to lift 300 lbs or whatever. That's why big NBA and NFL players always have knee, leg, and foot problems when they get older - their giant bodies are too big for their own good.

Quibbling over "2 to 3 plates" is silly because that can mean anything from like 1lb to over 600lb.

# ? Aug 27, 2016 23:58 |

"a plate" usually refers to the 45 lb plates "3 plates" is 3 plates on each side, plus the bar which is also typically about 45lb for a total of 315lbs. or 225lb if you're doing 2 plates. Which yeah if you're lifting frequently that's not that much but if you're wondering about form and busting your knees don't do that much weight.

It's because 45 lb plates is the only weight people give a poo poo about. Nobody is impressed by the collection of little bonus saucers and donuts you got dangling on the end of the bar.
