That island's like 6 miles wide; not a whole lot that's not seaside.

The team (well, anyone flying in, really) has to change planes in Barbados because SVG lacks an airport with a runway that can handle a 737 or otherwise typical commercial jet

So I guess Canada can make the Hex if they beat an already-eliminated El Salvador in Vancouver and makes up a -5 GD to Honduras, who play at the Azteca

Yeah but it'd be nice to have some variety in the Hex and an excuse to go to Vancouver or Toronto

So here's the USMNT roster for friendlies @Cuba (Friday 10/7) and vs. New Zealand (Tue 10/11)

quote:

GOALKEEPERS (3): David Bingham (San Jose Earthquakes), Ethan Horvath (Molde FK), William Yarbrough (Club Leon)

DEFENDERS (7): Steve Birnbaum (D.C. United), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin),Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Omar Gonzalez (Pachuca), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Moenchengladbach), DeAndre Yedlin (Newcastle)

MIDFIELDERS (8): Paul Arriola (Club Tijuana), Alejandro Bedoya (Philadelphia Union), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Lynden Gooch (Sunderland), Perry Kitchen (Hearts), Sacha Kljestan (New York Red Bulls), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund), Danny Williams (Reading)

FORWARDS (5): Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders FC), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes), Bobby Wood (Hamburg SV)

Bedoya dropped due to injury.

Fine leaving Howard/Guzan out for these two, though there's talk that Bill Hamid will be called in for the second match. Beyond that, I got nothing, except hey, Lynden Gooch!

Totally fine w/ Arena caretaking thru WC2018, which I imagine is what his contract will be.

Meanwhile, a lot of the American soccer media are attempting to posit a more MLS-centric lineup with the likes of Dax McCarty and Feilhaber and even Lee Nguyen (who got some chances under Klinsmann), never mind all of those guys, and Bradley, are north of 30.

I have a feeling the lineup in the next WCQ is gonna look a lot more familiar than people think, and that's not a slight against Arena.

Here's the U.S. roster for the upcoming qualifiers that we probably need 4 points from

quote:

U.S. MNT Roster by Position (Club; WCQ Caps/Goals):

GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Middlesbrough/ENG; 13/0) wife is expecting a kid so San Jose's David Bingham called in, Tim Howard (Colorado Rapids; 33/0), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake; 0/0)

DEFENDERS (8): DaMarcus Beasley (Houston Dynamo; 33/6), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin/GER; 2/0), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City/ENG; 19/2), Omar Gonzalez (Pachuca/MEX; 12/0), Michael Orozco (Club Tijuana/MEX; 6/1), Tim Ream (Fulham/ENG; 2/0), Jorge Villafaña (Santos Laguna/MEX; 0/0), Walker Zimmerman (FC Dallas; 0/0)

MIDFIELDERS (9): Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas; 1/0), Alejandro Bedoya (Philadelphia Union; 6/0, Michael Bradley (Toronto FC/CAN; 31/5), Jermaine Jones (LA Galaxy; 16/0), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach/GER; 15/1) replaced by Graham Zusi of SKC, Sebastian Lletget (LA Galaxy; 0/0), Dax McCarty (Chicago Fire; 0/0), Darlington Nagbe (Portland Timbers; 3/0), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund/GER; 5/2)

FORWARDS (4): Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC/CAN; 33/16), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC; 36/13), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders FC; 3/0), Bobby Wood (Hamburg/GER; 8/3)

There's no real right back because DeAndre Yedlin is hurt (Eric Lichaj is hurt too, if one was to really believe he'd be called up). Graham Zusi got a runout there in the friendlies earlier this year but didn't do much, and he wasn't called up anyway. It's possible Orozco could start there; my hunch is that Cameron will do it, though, and be replaced by Gonzalez in the middle, because it's the least worst option IMO.

And Arena stated that Fabian Johnson would play midfielder, but he left Mönchengladbach's Europa League match in like the 15th minute yesterday, so his status is TBD out; Graham Zusi called up in his place

As strong a roster as we've had called up in years, provided they don't get themselves hurt in training (Chandler is out with a supposed hamstring problem, though I don't know if he even made it to the States for camp)

*Provisional squads. They have until late June to narrow them down to 23.

The USMNT one is fine. Kind of surprised by the omission of Danny Williams, but whatever. Some of those guys (Pulisic, Jozy, Deuce, Bradley) may get called up for the knockouts, but I doubt they are on the initial 23.

Gold Cup roster. It's fine.

Jesse Gonzalez's switch paperwork hasn't gone thru FIFA yet, but he was the only guy bordering on "surprise," though I didn't think guys like Omar or Bedoya might have gotten called in until the knockouts.
