Infinite ammo vs. CYBER PUNCH!!
old thread

1st PV - 2nd PV

Keroro RPG: The Knight, the Warrior, and the Legendary Pirate was released as a spin-off Tales game in March 2010 on Nintendo DS, and is based on a popular manga/anime series in Japan, Keroro Gunso/Sergeant Keroro. Despite the insane popularity of both Tales games and Keroro in Japan, this crossover only sold about 25,000 copies.

The original Keroro RPG thread was hybrid screenshot/video format, heavier on the screenshot side. This time the main part of the update will be videos with subtitled commentary, and translations by yours truly.

No spoilers, though I suspect that won't be a problem with an obscure Japan-only tie-in game.

Part 27: Back To Business

The Keroro RPG LP is back—in video form, with 75% more Narrator! :D Nothing like wasting time on a shiny new boat to get our bearings after a long hiatus.

Extra Info

Ikinari Dango/Surprise Dumplings

Much like in the game, Surprise Dumplings are made with red bean paste, Japanese sweet potatoes, and rice flour. You can even make them yourself!

In the Sgt. Keroro anime, Keroro kept trying to make and sell Ikinari Dango.

I think the real-world tie-in snacks sold better.

Artes/Skills learned this update:

Tamama

Soul Chakra: Heals the party by 15% of each target's max HP. So, multi-hit Chakra, basically.

Part 28: The Reluctant Heir (Part 1)

A new town, a not-so-new face.

Extras

326/Saburo/Mutsumi Houjou/623

This character's name and age varies. In the Sgt. Keroro anime, and any spin-offs based on it, he's known as Saburo, a brilliant-but-lazy middle school student. At night, he stars in his own radio show as the mysterious Mutsumi. While Natsumi (and secretly Giroro) are huge fans of Mutsumi's show, they don't know his true identity.

In the manga, Mutsumi Houjou is a little older, and doesn't have a secret identity, but is mysterious nonetheless. And Natsumi still has a huge crush on him.

Manga-verse Mutsumi also has an adoptive alien dad.

This is N326. He's so serious and boring-perfect, he has to practice being more dad-like for when he sees Mutsumi again.

Daimyo

Daimyo were Japan's feudal lords, second in power only to the shogun from the 10th century to the mid-19th century. In the Edo period, daimyo were determined based on the rice production of their territories.

Part 29: The Reluctant Heir (Part 2)

The Keroro Platoon escorts Sannojou through a wetland full of dead bodies (probably) on their way to the Mountain Shrine.

Extras

The Haunted Marsh, with its broken war banners and foggy mire, is probably a reference to the Battle of Sekigahara. You can read about it here, or watch the excellent Extra History episode about it here.

Long ago, at the end of Part 26, Mois gave us her flip phone/planet-destroying weapon, the Lucifer Spear. When calling Mois as a Support in battle, she appears in her true Angol form, and clobbers the enemies with a non-world-ending fraction of her power.

Namco released this game to arcades on 1986, and it got ported to multiple systems later on. Kagekiyo, the main character, appears as a Support in Keroro RPG. I forgot to record actually obtaining it, but it's in a treasure chest in the Haunted Marsh, appropriately enough. When called, Kagekiyo uses Whirlwind Blade to spin his sword repeatedly through whatever's in his way.

Here's a link to a longplay of the arcade version of Genpei Toumaden. I also found an English-subbed promotional video ripped from VHS. It's... interesting. Give it a look.

BONUS CONTENT! Kero Zero Short

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74iW_kSMNaM

On the day Keroro is supposed to leave for Earth to begin the invasion, he sleeps in, and misses the space-bus. So begins the Kero Zero short that came out in 2009, shown with the fourth Keroro movie. Kero Zero became a whole mini-series within the anime itself, showing how things went down on the trip to Earth with the newly-formed Keroro Platoon.

That Which Blocks One's Path

Youkai Douchuuki is the 1987 Namco arcade game that our latest Support, Tarosuke, stars in. When called, he charges up and fires a ball of energy, his main attack in the game he came from.

You can watch the arcade version here, or the NES version here with all five endings.

Giroro

Reckless: Giroro's third Character Skill. When his HP goes below 20%, his Attack and Defense increase.

Kururu
Hell Burst: The fire-elemental nuke spell, and Kururu's third Musha Arte.

Dororo
Swift Slash: One of his best and most spammable moves. Does a straight horizontal slash through the target, and can be used in midair.

Part 31: A Boy Named Winter

The Keroro Platoon returns to the Pirate Area to reunite with Captain Frog, who recently picked up a new passenger.

Extras

Fuyuki Hinata

Fuyuki Hinata, age 12, 7th grade. Paranormal turbonerd and all-around nice boy. The ambassador of Earth, more or less. While his older sister Natsumi stops Keroro's invasion plans with the power of violence, Fuyuki stops them with the power of friendship.

And by friendship, I mean Fuyuki and Keroro are the most heartwarming buddy-pair in the series.

We're talking "got a character song duet" levels of best-friendness, here.

The Choco Salmon recipe raises everyone's Luck by 5 levels. In case you're really hurting for it, I guess.

Extras

Klonoa of the Wind

Klonoa of the Wind: Door to Phantomile came out on the Playstation in 1998, to the delight of everyone. Everyone. :catbert: Klonoa is a super-cute rabbit/dog/cat-thing with a Pac-Man on his hat. Can't get more Namco than that. He's voiced by Kumiko Watanabe, same as Keroro. In Keroro RPG, the Klonoa Support attacks by grabbing a Moo with his Wind Ring, and throwing it.

Mappy

Released in arcades in 1983, and ported to everything ever afterward, Mappy puts you in the tiny shoes of the "Micro Police" to door some "Naughty Folks" to death. It even got featured as a minigame in one of the Keroro action games as Tamappy, maddening BGM intact.

Artes/Skills learned this update

I forgot to compile the ones learned last update, so this covers parts 32 and 33.

Keroro
Sea Punisher: Keroro's final Pirate Arte. Slashes forward and upwards to attack the enemy with an ocean wave. Water-elemental.

Tamama
War God Strike: Tamama's final Musha Arte. He jumps up and smashes the enemy down with his giant dango trident-thing.

Cyclone Inferno: Tamama's final Pirate Arte, and one of my favorites. Tamama slams down that Destroyer God visor, and spins his giant axe in a whirlwind of death.

Giroro
Bullet Storm: Giroro's final Pirate Arte. Pumps the enemy fulla lead.

Kururu
Chrono Solid: Kururu's final Pirate Arte is a powerful water-elemental spell that impales the enemy on a rapidly-growing tower of ice.

Dororo
Tornado Slash: Dororo's final Musha Arte. Creates a small tornado to damage the enemy. Wind-elemental.

Keroro
Emperor Blade Dance: His third Musha Arte. Unlike the previous two blink-and-it's-over Musha Artes, this one carries Keroro forward several steps, slashing methodically through his enemies. It's a nice way to burrow into a pile of jerks.

Giroro
Soul Fafnir: Giroro's third Knight Arte. This attack fires off an aura dragon at an upward angle.

Kururu
Dynas Volt: Kururu's third Knight Arte. Summons storm clouds to zap the enemies multiple times with wind-elemental magic, and covers a decent portion of the battlefield.

Wagyan Land

Wagyan Land (or Wagan Land) first came out on the Famicom in 1989. In it, you play as a little green dinosaur thing that screams at his foes. There have been 10 different Wagyan games over several platforms, including Super Famicom and Game Gear, as well as re-releases on mobile and Wii Virtual Console.

In Keroro RPG, Wagyan gets to scream at enemy sprite recolors. He's come so far!

Afro Sergeant

The password to enter the Forest of Elves, "Eantserg and roaf," is a switched-up version of Afro Sergeant, the first ending to the Keroro Gunso anime. The opening lyrics are, "The password is afro and sergeant."
