Compare uber and airbnb, whose business model is ostensibly "make an industry better with technology/exploit contractors with technology", to flexport, whose business model is actually doing that. Sure, they're also exploiting their workforce, but flexport will not succeed because that's already, say, C.H. Robinson's business model. If Flexport starts to see success, C.H. Robinson will pay a lot of money to make their technology better and then Flexport won't be doing so well anymore. What made uber and airbnb successful is that their competitors could not do that because their business model is actually doing illegal things- running a hack taxi service, running an uninsured hotel chain- in a roundabout way that makes it legal-ish. Running a lovely contractor service that exploits its work force was already standard to taxi companies, but, yeah, it really is more profitable to run a taxi service if you don't follow any regulations! Who knew? So yeah, I fully expect the app to connect "porn directors" with "porn stars" to be fairly successful and pretty much the logical conclusion of this whole shebang. Although maybe Theranos was a better logical conclusion.

They claimed to be working on technology that would allow for on the spot testing of 100+ conditions through a single drop. They partnered with Walgreens I believe (a partnership that was recently broken off) to install these testing machines in their stores. You walk in stick your finger/hand in, the machine runs your blood and you get a read out regarding a host of different things from cholesterol to VD.

My impression was just they were saying they could get incredibly accurate test results from miniscule amounts of blood. So that, I guess. Of course in reality a pinprick of anything will get you gently caress all in terms of accurate results, and they were paying another company with ACTUAL blood-testing existence to do the tests for them, and passing off the scientifically-dubious results of as totally reliable and their own. With current technology you need a certain volume blood to get accurate and also repeatable results.
