They have dudes working on the show like Pablo Hidalgo who wrote for the West End Games RPGS (which is largely responsible for the backstory we accepted as the canon back in the days) who are doing their damndest to bring in the good stuff from the old EU. Also, the A-Wing being in pre-ROTJ was explained even pre-Disney as this guy http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/R-22_Spearhead appearing in stuff like X-Wing, Droids, etc.
