Blistex posted:In all I made about $4000 in free money from different administrative gently caress ups which paid for my entire wedding ceremony (~200 guests) and wedding photos in China. God I wish my wedding I'm planning in Taiwan could be that cheap. It is probably going to be double that not including the honeymoon. Not to get into BWM chat in here because I can afford everything and I've been saving two years for it, but gently caress I gotta spend 2000 dollars on lovely cookies. Edit: I should say the actual ceremony on the day-of and engagement/wedding photos are going to be around what Blistex paid. It is all the other crap that gets more expensive. Like a hairdresser for the bride's mother. And the aforementioned cookies you send to people not good enough to go to the ceremony. Originally the mother-in-law said she didn't even want her side of the family to give envelopes. My parents said they would give me as much as they gave my sister, and that would be enough to cover all expenses by itself but I'm not touching that and using it as a nest egg.

A few thread back there was an article about people working as tellers in the Bank of China who had to pay money when people closed accounts/didn't open enough new accounts this month. Something like that. Worker's rights are garbage in most places here. In both places working in Taiwan it was written in my contract that if I leave early/get fired early then I would have to pay back the "training fee" which is something like 2500 USD. Unenforceable if you leave, but if you are staying at a place you like and they want money...I have no idea how it would work.

I think I have already told this story in here before but when I first came to Taiwan, on Christmas Day a friend and I went to an arcade and he was playing Street Fighter 4. A big crowd gathered around him as people tried to beat the foreigner. Then he beat every single person in a row, and the crowd kinda got sad and went away.

We went to a diner for breakfast once and I ordered chicken-fried steak with eggs over medium, which came with biscuits and gravy. Rather than evaluate the menu, he just told the waitress, "Me too." When the food arrived, he poked an egg with his fork and watched in horror as the liquid yolk drained out. My fiance also has a problem with runny eggs. She also has problems eating meat that is too rare or too seared.
