Arsenic Lupin posted:Wow, now I'm realizing how much it would weird me out if a modern (post-1900) church *didn't* have a kitchen, and a big one. When a local church closed out this year, they sold a lot of institutional-quality kitchen equipment. Bel_Canto posted:they're sprung from the same origin as the seventh-day adventists. unlike the messianics, they're pretty much all goyim, but they still think that we need to observe all the old testament laws in order to be saved. they also maintain that the original language of the new testament was aramaic, and think that the Latin name of Jesus is a false name derived from Zeus Then you get groups like Twelve Tribes or the Roberts Brethren; suffice to say "we call Him Yeshua" is usually a good sign to turn around and walk the other way.

The Mennonites, maybe, but the Moravians will warmly welcome you, they're just not supposed to proselytize about it. If you'd posted this about a month ago I'd have urged you to visit one of their Lovefeast services for Christmas, because those are super great---carols, brass band, beeswax candles to take home, spiced rolls, and overly sweet coffee all in one service.

Donations to the church in order to answer a prayer or give thanks for one that's been settled. Most of the restaurants/bars/shops in the neighborhood will have ribbons behind the register where you can pin a bill or two and the full ribbons will be tied to the statue. There are saint festivals in the North End every weekend in August; this one's the biggest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feast_of_St._Anthony http://www.saintanthonysfeast.com/index.html

This particular one is Boston specific but it wouldn't surprise me if there are similar events where there are other large Italian communities.
