I bought a ticket to the Tampa MegaCon tomorrow, my third convention of the year, which is crazy and unheard of for me. But the previous cons had so many great guests I wanted signatures from, including lifelong favorites like Keith Giffen, Adam Hughes, Tony Harris, and Paris Cullins (who ended up canceling), plus my Star Trek-loving friend and I got to meet William Shatner for about ten seconds.

This will be a smaller show, but the main draws for me were hanging out with friends I hardly ever see anymore, and meeting Greg Rucka. I was planning to have him sign my four Gotham Central TPBs, four 52 TPBs, and Countdown to Infinite Crisis. But then he got sick and canceled. I probably would have skipped this con if I had known Rucka couldn't make it, but what are you gonna do?

At least I'll still get to (hopefully) meet Ty Templeton, Andrew Robinson, Pat Broderick, and Chuck Dixon, see my friends, and share at least one good meal out there.

There's one more con in Florida in December, but it's a three-hour drive each way, and the only person I really want to meet is Pia Guerra, to have her sign my Y The Last Man TPBs. At this point, I can't justify it.

Hey, does anyone know what happened with nonplayer? I remember buying a second issue that seemed almost totally disconnected with the first after the creator healed up from his accident, but nothing more.

I kinda want Patton to write some more comics. I liked his "Dirty Dozen but with Batman as the leader and weird versions of his villains as the rest of the group" proposal, and JLA:Welcome to the Working Week was fun.

My Joker 66 looks more like Heath Ledger. I tried to put on a fake mustache but it kept falling down on to my lip and being all together uncomfortable. I do have swimming trunks on and a fake surfboard made from an ironing board though, but people keep coming up to me and asking "why so serious?"

Crosspost from the Marvel thread, since the Spiderwoman cover was a wider story, but Milo Manara just gifted Frank Cho with something for all his good work.

I can't fault Milo Manara for doing what Milo Manara has done literally all of his career. Dude made "Click", of course he's a weirdo sex pervert. That's a known quantity, expecting anything less is being dumb as a bag of rocks.

That's literally what Marvel did, and, the fact that someone thought it would be a good idea to get the guy who makes comics about women getting drilled in crowded streets to do variant covers with superheroines on them demonstrates a lot about what's hosed up in this industry.

Frank Cho is incidental to all of that. He's a guy who, for all his bluster about the prudes stopping him from drawing boobs and butts, has never published a work that couldn't be described as "incredibly tame". He claims to be all about the freedom to do his art, but all he's done is the lamest, and laziest, provocations imaginable. If he had any integrity, he'd follow the example of Howard Chaykin, and he'd do his version of "Black Kiss". Instead he has to ride the coattails of other, better pornographers.

I'm picking up my Cave Carson cassette this week, and it made me wonder. What's some of your favorite comic store freebies?

One of my favorites is a glow in the dark GL ring I found in my shops storage room. Didn't know what it was from until I met Dwayne McDuffie, and he said it was a give away when Kyle Rayner first became Green Lantern. I'm also rather fond of my Multiversity map.

Not really. Only a few are worth much, I tend to sell them for a buck each.

Those Cave Caron tapes were going for bonkers money for a minute.
Is this that ring?

I have a ton of old promos, one of my favorites is a hall pass DC released to hype the launch of Impulse. They used to drop so many cool things. When I started working at the shop I found a box of promos and posters dating back to the early 90's and there was so much neat poo poo in there.

That's the ring. The glue sucks, so the lantern symbol eventually fell off.

There was a pretty cool Guardians of the Galaxy sticker that I have on my 3DS. It's blue and sparkly.

That was actually the promo for the release of Green Lantern Mosiac, not the debut of Kyle Rayner. I have two of them somewhere, one beat to hell, another in pristine shape. Prior to DC releasing the Blackest Night promo rings they were worth a fortune.

Possibly but I was getting GL on my pull list in 1993-94 and would have probably gotten a ring if they'd released them again. DC wasn't much into reusing promo items at that point.

I read the first 4 and liked the art but the writing leaves a lot to be desired most of the comics are "we are going here! Oh look the communications officer what is your job? Cool now we are at the place we went to but one of our friends got shot" the first 18 are on marvel unlimited

That was surreal, I got a text from my Mom saying she took my sister to work, but I heard the shower running. So I thought somebody broke into our house to use the shower, so I got the biggest dog we have, and went into the bathroom only to find it was my sister and she didn’t go to work today.

It also turned out that my sister thought I was somebody that broke into the house as well.
