Azathoth posted:The people who would be influenced by the debate to finally come off the fence are people who would come around to one side or the other before the election, whether it was the previous debate, or one of the ones coming up, or some random news story. I have a theory that a lot of what Kaine said was designed to bait Trump himself, as it was announced that he would be live tweeting during the debate. I have to check and see if he tweeted anything especially egregious.

Azathoth posted:I don't think you're far off. There was certainly some of that, but I think a bunch of it was also designed to be attack ad material. Yeah, while I think that Pence came off looking better on camera, the story going forward is going to be about him denying things which there are video records of. This was definitely a win for Clinton's long game.

Philthy posted:Pence didn't throw himself into 2020 anything. He supported Trump and the insanity that came with it. After this year Republicans will want to nuke this year from orbit, and Pence is a part of that. People are saying that this election will be the end of the GOP. I'm not sure I believe that, though. I think that Trump will make any republican presidential candidate going forward look that much better by comparison. EDIT: I'm durping. Of course it's not the end of the republican party. They'll still control congress and the majority of state houses. Sorry.
