Under socialism electronics would have to be made to last, in order for everyone to have access to them. Ease of repair would be a primary concern. There'd be no crazy torx, torx-plus, or pentalobe screws made to keep you from opening your device. Repair manuals would be found in all languages, not just Chinese.

The adoption of newer, faster technologies would likely be slower than capitalism, as an emphasis on long lifecycles and backwards compatibility would hinder newer tech. There also wouldn't be a large enough demand for new features like "4k" or "3D" without the influence of marketing.

under socialism in all liklihood everyone is guaranteed a PC with a certain minimum spec, the only problem is there's only 2 factories making a specific part necessary for the functioning of all PCs and 1 of them is shuttered and the other is 3 years behind on production because the silicon production site is flooded. thus in reality everyone is guaranteed a computer in the same way Star Citizen backers are guaranteed a game.

While the prototype is in its early stages, I can reveal the following design elements and considerations:

1. There is a keyboard button for anime.
2. Computer powered by hand-crank, or if you have a DOCUMENTED DISABILITY like me, Snugglepuss or equivalent can be trained to do it for you.
3. Mom is not allowed to write "what did I do to deserve a daughter like this?" or "my horrible daughter has locked the door to the basement again" on the internet.
4. Amazon still exists. Free shipping from Asia on all products deemed "kawaii" by the Postal Committee. "Party Size" bags of French Onion potato chips renamed something less inherently upsetting.
5. There is a second keyboard button for anime, as a failsafe. Or you can press both at the same time for twice as much anime.

We can only reach a future if we can envision it. I hope these design principles inspire you to greater things.

• Your dreams

Soviet computers were clones of Western chipsets. So they had all the downsides of those, plus shoddy build quality, plus abysmal supply and not being available for consumers. The best way to get a computer was to save up vouchers for a state sanctioned import of a Commodore or ZX Spectrum or something.

I only have two hands. Maybe a foot pedal? (Only one foot pedal, because my right foot is tender, due to Gout).

The more I think about it, anime must be a public service. Instead of a button to get anime, anime should be streamed all the time, and there should just be a button called NOT ANIME that you have to hold down to use your computer for other things, and it should be small and uncomfortable and if you press it too much you get Re-Educated.

It goes without saying that there would be no personal computers except for people with DOCUMENTED DISABILITIES such as myself. Average people could go to the library to use the computers. The libraries would be open 24/7 and if mom won't wake up to drive you there at 4am (which is 5PM in Japan, obviously) then she will be ReEducated for a week in the following manner: they will give her a Chemical to mimic the effects of your DOCUMENTED DISABILITIES and then put her in an uncomfortable folding chair which they will refuse to replace with an Ergonomically Correct one, and then they will pester her constantly to Do Her Part For The Family even after she explains that her work on the CommuPuter is not merely her doing her part for this family, but for all families. And they will take her cat away because apparently, she is Not Taking Care of It. Fleas are a part of the Natural World and a cat is a Natural Animal. There is much to learn from the strength of the mighty, though tiny, flea, and also from the stoic forbearance of the cat.

There is something to be said for the simplicity of life that today only really exists in places like North Korea. Capitalism forces us to work ourselves to the bone and while some people might enjoy that I personally don't see it as humanity's future. We could live far calmer and peaceful lifes if we weren't constantly pressured to compete and improve. North Korea has considerable problems but every citizen there also has their place in society. There's no pressure or stress from trying to outdo yourself and others. I think that's something most westerners could learn about.

The peasants in North Korea are worked to death by military warlords who run their units as organized crime syndicates. They "requisition" food without regard for the producers, force people to work in drug plants from which they smuggle meth to China, and run protection rackets. Nation wide famine is always one bad season away. Contagious diseases that were mostly eradicated abroad are rampant throughout the country, killing people constantly, North Korean refugees are considered a major epidemiological vector in neighbouring countries. A semblance of order and peace exists only in urban centers and in slave colonies where indentured servants are sold as chattel to South Korean corporations.

By a similar measure, the kulaks of Ukraine had such a simple life, the state even decided for them when they were fit to die.

They do work hard but every citizen is trained for a very specific task from an early age. They don't need to stress over career choices and once they graduate they're very good at what they do because it's the only thing they've practiced since childhood.

Furthermore the Soviet Union wasn't really communist in anything but name so they're not that good of an example when it comes to socialist technology and inventions.
