Card thought people could actually change each others mind through well written thought pieces (pffftttt) while Brin basically predicted reddit with that people just wanted to read stuff/opinions they already agree with.

I post on the subreddit for my neighborhood and most people are nice, but one guy got really mad at me and sent me a lot of nasty messages once because he disagreed with my opinion on a local park. He wanted to meet up and fight me in person because I had said the park was safe at night.
