November is here and it is time for a new thread.

Some important things to remember about November:

Remembrance Day when we remember those who sacrificed themselves for freedom from tyranny and oppression.

Guy Fawkes Night when we remember some dude tried blow up a bunch of British politicians. Or as you yanks call it, 5th November (just another day)

Yankee Voting day. When we remember that America is a democracy and it can try return itself to some kind of sanity after having to chose between a fascist and a qualified candidate.

Politics freak me the gently caress out and make me really anxious, so I'll be happy when Hilary wins and I can stop worrying about the faint possibility of President Trump.

I guess this is one advantage the American system has. In Canada, the loser typically still ends up with a prominent position in the government.

Brexit polling was within the margin of error. Hillary still has a pretty solid lead even if every poll is off by that much.

I mean, I'm still anxious about the whole thing, but yeah.

True and that's why Trump has been saying if he wins it will be "Brexit times ten".

That said, Brexit winning was still a nasty shock to wake up to and left me with an "expect the worst" approach to politics.

I hate the latest epic rap battle of history because despite doing a great Trump in their Scrooge Christmas special, this time they just did him as some kind of pure evil monster dedicated 100% to racism and misogyny. I think President Trump would be horrible and an awful reality to live in, but I think he's mostly just a dumbass who didn't expect to get this far and now wants to win out of ego.

I saw Gwar on Sunday and got to see Hillary rip off Trump's head skin then tear apart his chest. She then sprayed me with blood from her breasts.

Wasn't the Beast supposed to by relatively sympathetic towards the end? Like, the Smiler ran for president purely out of ego and power while the Beast, was at least trying to help the country in a pragmatic way.

Trump is more Smiler than anything.

Yeah Hilary has basically won at this point the only point of real contention is the senate ( the democrats should win that but might not) and the house ( they will probably lose that) races.

Fair enough. I'm not as clued-in about American politics but I'm reluctant to count chickens before they hatch.

One thing I have been a bit surprised by as an outside observer is that nobody seems to have been making much of Clinton potentially being America's first female president. I would have thought that would have invited more commentary. I suppose it's because Clinton has been involved in politics for a long time, so she doesn't seem as "fresh" as Obama did when he won.

Eh, Hilary's positives are essentially "not Trump". He's really been stealing the spotlight the entire election so it's been hard to pinpoint specific historic things about Hillary when everything is so wrapped up in opposing the opposition. However, there was a lot of that poo poo during the primaries with supporters of Bearnie being labeled as misogynistic traitors for supporting "a white male" over her. It is in fact a common deflection of her criticisms from die hard fans of hers, as much of a right wing strawman as that sounds, but it's true.

That's a really great way to dismiss 25 years of public service.

Honestly I don't know where this whole "she is qualified" feeling comes from, seeing as she has, you know, actually served for the United States while her opponent spent most of his time repeating his name to anyone who would listen while bankrupting casinos

I'm not denying that possibility. Maybe it was and I'm unaware, but there was also plenty of unprovoked anger because of the idea the only feminist thing to do was vote for Hillary for that reason alone(and ignorance of the fact that Sanders was Jewish).

I don't get your point. She's better than Trump, that's what I said. Her political record is ehh, okayish? Generally, no one running for president is really all that great, though I think Hilary in particular is the most mediocre offered up by the Left in awhile even though I'd also vote for her over the last several Republican candidates.

I'm pretty sure the point is that Clinton has a fairly significant amount of political experience over Trump, while Trump is just now getting into politics and wasn't even all that good at what he was doing before the election.

Saying the only thing she has over Trump is just not being him, is also erasing the fact that she does have her good points.

It's actually a major advantage over the American system because it enables viable third-party voting and small single-issue parties to come to the table.
