Movies are certainly better than TV. That being said, it's really annoying to have to keep track of all the weird old forgotten 70s TV shows I want to watch without a service as good as Letterboxd to do it on.

It will 100% ruin the site because most people watch way more TV than movies. It will drown out everything else.

most people maybe but not the kind of people who care about logging what they watch on an app/site for enthusiast nerds.

some of the highest grossing movies with the biggest audiences have barely over a 3 rating. letterboxd is primarily for film "snobs" who also happen to want to log premiere tv also. i doubt you're gonna see a huge influx of people whose top 4 are things like the great british baking show and tiger king or whatever.

There should just be a second app that's a LB clone but tv.

There needs to be a separate site, or at the very least a way to filter to see only films. The non-film things they include are completely arbitrary anyway. You'll get random seasons of TV shows inexpicably included, and you can be drat sure some psychopath has made an entry for every 20-minute behind the scenes featurette from a LaserDisc release.

They have a "Hide TV Shows" filter, but it only works like 50% of the time.

Darthemed posted:

But I don't want to log TV. I want to make stupid lists and discover new obscure garbage.

Thank you, I had completely overlooked that. Although it sounds like it still needs a lot of work.

Nothing's better than postin' in the morning!

Yeah a TV-only version that pulls from TVDB and maybe a videogame version would be nice, but the movie focus is why I'm there. Letterboxd is such a slick website that does everything it needs to be and doesn't overcomplicate things. Just have your account details apply across multiple sites if you absolutely must.

They use TMDb for movies so I imagine any TV show implementation would come from them too as the code is mostly in place. And I’d be fine for that (separated, as you say) because the tvdb people are the worst.

How many friends are ya'll with that serialised tv ruins it for you? I've only got the handful of people on here and a few stragglers -- and that seems to be pretty much all I see in terms of other people's views/tastes.

My only beef would be if it complicated the interface. Otherwise I wouldn't really care if I saw people logging that they watched an episode of Hell's Kitchen.

I'd almost be in favor of it if it would mean that people would stop leaving reviews for TV shows on the pages of movies with the same name.

So I just found out about Letterboxd and it's p cool. I dumped my horror insanity into it. I don't see any real benefits for the pro/patron levels that stick out. Is it mostly just to pat them on the back for making such a slick site? Doesn't look like they have groups yet?

Anyway, im on there as _Philthy_ if anyone cares.

There's some features that are nice to have if you're pro like adding a tag for if you own a movie/being able to sort lists by if you own the movie, stat pages for the year, setting which streaming services you use/getting notifications if a movie in your watchlist is added to streaming, but the main thing is probably no ads. If you use the website a lot I think pro (but not the higher tier) is worth it, but if not then probably not

hell yeah fellow hackers in top 4

as a patron subscriber, it is definitely mostly just a "thanks for the cool app" thing

adding tags to make auto lists of movies you own is cool. setting your own movie poster is neat. but i think my favorite patron feature is seeing themes and nanogenres on your stats page

also, if anyone gives a poo poo, here's my stats page where i take advantage of some pro and patron level features like highlighted lists (i stack rank directors films in separate lists as well as movies i own physically and digitally, etc)

and here's my profile page with custom movie posters in the top 4. fun fact you can go to the moviedatabase site and upload your own custom posters for whatever movie you want. letterboxd pulls from that repository so you can essentially upload and select whatever poster you want, so long as it fits the size/dimension guidelines

Followed, love me some horror insanity. As to subscribing, I was just looking over it when someone else asked, and my conclusion was the Pro level gets you most of the really practical features, Patron has some cool stuff too, but it's a lot more cosmetic and/or the tier if you really like the site and want to throw a few extra bucks their way.

thanks! followed back. i was happy to find custom posters with a similar color palette for all of Tarantino's movies. this letterboxd stuff scratches the same itch that making custom myspace pages did back in the day.

and yeah justwatch is great. i'm catching up on my watchlist stuff that's only on netflix right now while actively subscribed and the app makes it super easy. when i''m done i'll cancel again for a while till more stuff comes on.
