So I just found out about Letterboxd and it's p cool. I dumped my horror insanity into it. I don't see any real benefits for the pro/patron levels that stick out. Is it mostly just to pat them on the back for making such a slick site? Doesn't look like they have groups yet?

Anyway, im on there as _Philthy_ if anyone cares.

The online service availability thing is worth the money alone imo. Of course you can check everything on justwatch.com, but being able to check my entire watchlist (that I'm keeping on letterboxd anyway) for films that are on a streaming service I subscribe to (and filtering for a specific service, and getting an email when a film I want to watch comes to a service I have) is such a luxury.

yeah at $19 a year Pro is 100% worth it if you use Letterboxd with any regularity. No ads, the JustWatch stuff, filtering your feed, etc. The notifications when a movie on my watchlist is added to one of my streaming services is really handy, and the stats pages are a fun bonus too.

I watched and logged 126 movies this year, or averaging about 1 every 3 days. Pretty happy with that. I feel like I saw more in theater this year than last at least also.

I only started using the diary feature at the beginning of March, but I came in at 160 films for 13.3/month and 3.1/week. That may be a little inflated because it does include the May/October horror challenge months when I go hard, but is probably about right.

This was a big year for me, first time I completed Spooktober, and watched a ton of stuff I'd been 'meaning to get to' that were "good for you" movies like Searchers, Rear Window, Possession

https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=4049769&pagenumber=3&perpage=40

so this is pitifully late to alert this thread, but there's an "official" movie of the year thread in the link above. the deadline is in like 45 minutes lol, but i feel like letterboxd users are the most likely to have ranked lists. if you live exclusively out of your bookmarked threads and didn't get around to seeing/noticing the MotY one until you're seeing this post and want to participate, i don't think anyone will cry foul play at extending the deadline by a day or something (mods??)

but if there's no response here or action by the time i wake up tomorrow, LA time, i'm gonna tally the votes and post the results.

200 films in 2023. Surprisingly accurate window into what life was like this year between work and moving.

Of those, here's the 13 ones I saw that I thought were :perfect:.

What was your final movie? I ended with Cecelia Condit's Little Spirits, which was short but kind of devastating

"The Days of Wine and Roses" which was also a melodramatic and devastating flick. Working my way through Jack Lemmon's flicks, the guy is so good.

Nashville before that, which is fuckin' amazing.

How to Blow Up a Pipeline was my final film of 2023. I had been meaning to watch it for a while and kept forgetting. Luckily got a reminder and shorter run time helped.

I only log horror on my Letterboxd account so my stats say it's Scream 2, but my actual last movie was a rewatch of Blazing Saddles, which I watched for the first time a few months ago and wanted to rewatch with some friends. My last new watch was Past Lives. All in all, a good end to the year.

Here's my list of my top 50 first time watches this year. It was a really great year for movies for me.

Lol 5 of my top 10 most watched are cast members from Koji Shiraishi's Senritsu Files film series, including Koji himself. Another one is a guy that was in 4 Isaac Rodriguez movies, a tubi found footage specialist.

Did you lose a bet to watch that much DeCoteau? Watched 1313: Cougar Cult earlier this year and was floored at how much of a not-movie it was. Just endless scenes of hunks in whitey tighties and the barest of plots to justify it. Felt like watching someone indulge in their own private fetish.

Admittedly, I don't know that much about the guy. Does he have 34 films that are actually movies?

I was actually aiming for 52 DeCoteau films, but my willpower ran out. And Herk Harvey has 31 directorial credits, though of course most of them are educational or industrial shorts.

These 300 + films are crazy to me. I often feel like I need a day or so to sit with a film before moving on. Though maybe it depends on the film. I did marathon all the conjuring universe films a couple years ago and those were pretty easy to forget.

love me some Dreamlike, Quirky, And Surreal Storytelling and Humanity And The World Around Us type films

this was the year i introduced myself to more of Yorgos Lanthimos' filmography just in time for Poor Things. turns out, he's good at making movies!

really really really cannot understand the massive hype for Come and See, but Harakiri deserves all the love it gets, imo
The Menu is pretty bad
Super Mario Bros was a hate watch bc i knew it would suck and it did
a friend convinced me to watch X and i felt like i was in a bad dream the whole time. horror is my least favorite genre, for sure.
