letterboxd has youtube videos on the platform and single seasons of tv shows like berserk. it would be fine and probably preferable if they incorporated official support for tv shows and other stuff

Peggotty posted:It will 100% ruin the site because most people watch way more TV than movies. It will drown out everything else. most people maybe but not the kind of people who care about logging what they watch on an app/site for enthusiast nerds. some of the highest grossing movies with the biggest audiences have barely over a 3 rating. letterboxd is primarily for film "snobs" who also happen to want to log premiere tv also. i doubt you're gonna see a huge influx of people whose top 4 are things like the great british baking show and tiger king or whatever.

Philthy posted:Anyway, im on there as _Philthy_ if anyone cares. hell yeah fellow hackers in top 4 as a patron subscriber, it is definitely mostly just a "thanks for the cool app" thing adding tags to make auto lists of movies you own is cool. setting your own movie poster is neat. but i think my favorite patron feature is seeing themes and nanogenres on your stats page also, if anyone gives a poo poo, here's my stats page where i take advantage of some pro and patron level features like highlighted lists (i stack rank directors films in separate lists as well as movies i own physically and digitally, etc) and here's my profile page with custom movie posters in the top 4. fun fact you can go to the moviedatabase site and upload your own custom posters for whatever movie you want. letterboxd pulls from that repository so you can essentially upload and select whatever poster you want, so long as it fits the size/dimension guidelines

Crescent Wrench posted:Also followed, you've got a really nice set-up here with some features I haven't seen used much, I clearly have more poking around to do. thanks! followed back. i was happy to find custom posters with a similar color palette for all of Tarantino's movies. this letterboxd stuff scratches the same itch that making custom myspace pages did back in the day. and yeah justwatch is great. i'm catching up on my watchlist stuff that's only on netflix right now while actively subscribed and the app makes it super easy. when i''m done i'll cancel again for a while till more stuff comes on.

https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=4049769&pagenumber=3&perpage=40 so this is pitifully late to alert this thread, but there's an "official" movie of the year thread in the link above. the deadline is in like 45 minutes lol, but i feel like letterboxd users are the most likely to have ranked lists. if you live exclusively out of your bookmarked threads and didn't get around to seeing/noticing the MotY one until you're seeing this post and want to participate, i don't think anyone will cry foul play at extending the deadline by a day or something (mods??) but if there's no response here or action by the time i wake up tomorrow, LA time, i'm gonna tally the votes and post the results.

love me some Dreamlike, Quirky, And Surreal Storytelling and Humanity And The World Around Us type films this was the year i introduced myself to more of Yorgos Lanthimos' filmography just in time for Poor Things. turns out, he's good at making movies! really really really cannot understand the massive hype for Come and See, but Harakiri deserves all the love it gets, imo The Menu is pretty bad Super Mario Bros was a hate watch bc i knew it would suck and it did a friend convinced me to watch X and i felt like i was in a bad dream the whole time. horror is my least favorite genre, for sure.

if and when they add tv i hope they put some interesting consideration into how the top 4 works. i would still prefer to see only movies in that place on someone's profile. maybe add a separate top 4 for shows or just another spot for your favorite show? and if they put shows there at all should it be the entire series or single seasons? like i would maybe put true detective season 1 in my "top shows" spot, but i wouldn't if it was limited to the entire series, which i haven't seen anything other than s1. on the other hand it would be weird seeing someone with, for instance, three seasons of the simpsons and one season of dexter or whatever in a top shows list on their profile. if i were working at lb and was forced to include tv, i agree by season makes most sense, but i would leave them out of being able to be added to top 4 altogether

letterboxd app update lets you tap on a little "people" icon to flip between average rating across all users and just your friend list unfortunately there is no option to sort any list of movies by your friend's scores, which would be neat. but the feature itself is still a nice little addition. btw it's for paid accounts only
