Just got back from the last day canvassing in Ohio after casting my vote for HILLDAWG 2016 in the KY. Not a lot of long lines in Cincinnati, so is that good, is that bad, I don't know. But my crew of two knocked on over 120 doors and we had an insane response rate, at least 60, all of them giddily happy that they had voted Hillary. A nice gentleman even offered me a swig of his malt to celebrate, I had to decline as it is against department policy.

Kentucky as a state is in terrible shape. New industry is not going to get going, our public school system is about to get gutted. I'm seriously considering a move back to California and not going for home ownership. It's just way too loving red here.

More kentucky thoughts, we have a few states to look at as examples for what's about to happen here. Wisconsin and Florida aren't mega hosed because they had cool and good industries. Kansas was mega hosed because they really didn't. My rating for kentucky is going to be ultra hosed because ford is one of Louisville's biggest employers and trump will actively work against them.

Was thinking of starting a small business next year but it would be the sort of thing that requires me to quit my job because it'll be a 90 hour a week type thing to get it going. Figured I can afford an expensive obamacare plan for little while. Now, no fuckin way. I can't afford to quit my job based on healthcare benefits alone. My poor deluded buddy last night was like "We'll get Singapore's system it won't be that bad!" Lol if he thinks there's going to be any system other than "Here's 5000 dollars try not to ever need more than that"

The only problem with the truth that "Hey democrats will win again someday" is that every time republicans come into power they cause about 24 years worth of damage. We were actually doing really drat well at cleaning up most of Bush's mess (still got a lot of Reagan poo poo of course) and we could have gotten back to start if we had 4 more years. Who knows how much damage Trump and the shitheads are going to cause.

re, rural voters chat. im from the old dead steel cities in the northern panhandle of west virgnia. together, weirton and steubenville ohio probably had about 50,000 people working there in the 1950s. There was also a huge KKK presence of course, blacks were not allowed to live in town, and unions were strong. In 1981, the steel industry collapsed and those places laid off thousands and most of the steel mills died. The reason? Just too much steel in the world, prices got driven down, and there was no profit in it anymore. No regulations, just the market gonna market. I was born shortly after and was taught from a young age "steel is dead, get out" Facebook of people living in that area is crowing that Trump is going to bring back the steel mills. They're really that completely deluded. Not only would no one want to invest the hundreds of millions of dollars it would take to rebuild a steel mill, steel production is much more automated than in the 70s, and those 50,000 jobs would probably be 3 to 4,000. Additionally, they've fought for years to destroy unions in Ohio, so the wages would be poo poo even if any of that happened. They've been completely conned and they're going to need our help, but this whole attitude of "Well let's find something for them to do" isn't helpful. Sometimes cities just die, and that's okay.
