There is a lot of hubris in NFL scouting/coaching. The scouting may say he is bad, but has good size and a cannon arm, and the coach simply thinks "I can fix him!" when it may not matter where the guy goes. Some coaches are good and can maximize talent, but short of a handful of cases if a guy is failure at one place, there isn't any fixing him.

I mean, the suspension itself was dumb because who the gently caress cares what players do with their own poo poo, but I do get the idea of the NFL honoring the NCAA's punishment. Although, there is a huge difference sitting out games in college where there isn't a paycheck and being suspended in the NFL which loses you money. So yeah, I have decided if they want to suspend but with pay I am cool with that.

Watson was very good in that game, but I think he does a lot of things that Manziel did that was worrying (not in that game though). For instance, Manziel would leave a perfectly clean pocket and scramble and end up running or throwing a ball that would have been bettered delivered with planted feet. Watson also kind of abandons his OL prematurely. Dude will have to get used to working in the pocket, and not start scrambling after his 1st or 2nd read.

Kalli posted:How does Peppers compare to Tyrann Matthieu as far as skillset goes? He's the last super talented guy I remember who had that label of being a weird talent with no natural position. Its easier to stick a guy into the secondary and have him switch between safety and corner that it is to make a guy switch between LB and DB. Matthieu is not the best comparison, because he was never playing near the line, unless on a blitz. Peppers will be expected to play the pass and run, as well as rush the passer.

I understand going BPA, but McShay seems to only do that and ignores how need plays into taking a guy that you might value equally as good but plays a different position.

Hey guys, I was thinking about how we try to do a mock draft every year and how we usually only get through two or three rounds and that takes almost the whole off season. I have a team based idea in mind. Basically instead of each person picking one team and drafting for them, everyone picks between 2 and 4 teams that they follow. No picking a rival just to take a punter in the first, at least take this a little serious or else it won't be interesting or fun. So for instance, I would take the Steelers, the Dolphins, and Jags. My man Ehud, living in the Carolinas and loving all things Henne takes the Dolphins, Panthers, and Jags. Febreeze takes the Giants and Seahawks. Basically, you pick a team that you root for and a team or two or three that you follow either because of geography or you have to draw them every drat week. Each "team" chats about overall strat, develops a big board, whatever. If the pick is up and you get to the computer, you make it and we move on. Instead of waiting 24-48 hours for a single guy to make a pick, you have hopefully 3 or 4 people all on the same plane of thinking who has the power to make the pick. Sound good?

While I agree with you, the Dolphins should just go BPA on defense. They LB and secondary need talent too. You can kick the can down the line another year on DL, but they really need LB/DB.

Once a player declares for the draft and signs with an agent, they are usually fronted money to train and such. Its not like the guy doesn't have access to a decent amount of money.
