even the article admits ryan is a bit weaselly about what he plans to do once the system switches to a voucher system for people under mid-50s

but the basic idea for people already in the system is to set up the competing voucher plan as an alternative, then as traditional medicare becomes too costly and providers refuse to accept it, they're left with no choice but to take the voucher

The Muppets On PCP

but anyway you guys are mixing up medicare and medicaid

medicaid pays for long-term care like nursing homes and in-home aides

that's getting block granted to states to piss away on tax cuts and smokestack chasing with the rest voucherized to managed care orgs

The Flag Protection Act of 2005 was a proposed United States federal law introduced by Senators Hillary Clinton and Robert Bennett. The law would have outlawed flag burning, and called for a punishment of one year in jail and a fine of $100,000.[1][2]

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, the act was summarized as such:

Amends the federal criminal code to revise provisions regarding desecration of the flag to prohibit: (1) destroying or damaging a U.S. flag with the primary purpose and intent to incite or produce imminent violence or a breach of the peace; or (2) stealing or knowingly converting the use of a U.S. flag either belonging to the United States or on lands reserved for the United States and intentionally destroying or damaging that flag.[3]
Since the law was not passed nor considered by the United States Congress, its constitutionality was not challenged by the Supreme Court; the bill was never assigned to committee.[4] However, the bill's language was designed so as to prohibit the desecration of a flag when the intent was found to be a threat to public safety, the intention being that it would therefore not violate the First Amendment and not be declared unconstitutional.[5]

Both co-sponsors of the bill voted against the Flag Desecration Amendment of 2006.

Police in Kensington, P.E.I., are threatening drunk drivers with a new form of punishment: being trapped in a cruiser playing a 15-year-old Nickelback album.

A post on the Kensington Police Service's Facebook page encourages people to plan to use a designated driver or cabs when going out, and reminds them police will be out "looking for those dumb enough to feel they can drink and drive."

"When we catch you, and we will catch you, on top of a hefty fine, a criminal charge and a year's driving suspension we will also provide you with a bonus gift of playing the office's copy of Nickelback in the cruiser on the way to jail," reads the post, alongside a photo of Nickelback's 2001 album Silver Side Up.

"So please, let's not ruin a perfectly good unopened copy of Nickelback. You don't drink and drive and we won't make you listen to it."

oh cool the fires in nc/tn/ga/sc were started by real life lennie from of mice and men

quote:

Keith Eugene Mann said he used kitchen matches to start blazes near Jones Creek Road and Boardtree Road, the complaint alleges.

When Special Agent Brian Southard with the Forest Service asked Mann why he set the fire he responded, "I guess I was just bored," according to the complaint.

Later Mann said he "wanted to see something burn," adding that his wife recently left him and he didn't have "much to live for," court documents state.

Mann, of Franklin, appeared in U.S. Federal District Court Wednesday afternoon in Asheville wearing a neon green shirt and jeans. Mann was placed into custody Tuesday night in Macon County by the U.S. Forest Service.

He was charged with destroying real property of the United States by means of fire, according to the criminal complaint filed with the court.

During his initial appearance, the judge asked Mann if he understood the charges brought against him, to which he replied "yes."

Mann also requested a court appointed attorney and stated he could only read and write "a little" in response to questions asked by the judge.

quote:

In the 911 audio Mann said he was "just riding around" when he found the fire. He also said he was driving a "white GMC pickup."

Investigators also learned that a suspicious vehicle was reported in the area of Jones Creek Road on Nov. 22. The vehicle was described as a mid-sized pickup. The driver had driven back and forth on the road for about 30 minutes. The driver was also described as a "large male wearing a neon green shirt or vest."

About six days later, Southard went to Mann's home and sat with him on the back of his pickup to talk about the suspicious fires.

Mann said he did not set any fires but did admit to driving around in the area of Jones Creek Road around 9:30 p.m. Nov. 22, the criminal complaint states. While he was driving he encountered a black ford that he thought set a fire in the area. Once Mann saw the fire he drove to a local elementary school where he had cell service to call 911.

About a month ago, Mann said he was driving around Broadtree Road when he found another fire. "He said he didn't report it because he has always heard that the one who reports the fire is usually the one suspected of setting it," according to the complaint.

The fire was about 3-4 acres.

Mann admitted to setting the fires when Southard told Mann that Mann was his suspect, court documents state.

To ignite flames, Mann poured kitchen matches onto the ground and lit them. Then, he left the area and did not report the flames.

Mann said he called 911 on Nov. 22 after setting the fire near Jones Creek Road because he was scared.

"He became scared due to all the fires in the area," the complaint states.
