Problem description: I have freshly purchased an Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-575G-57A4) and it runs great! Smooth as silk. Problem: It has terrible loving internet connection and I was never able to see why. There was no reason for it. I troubleshooted the network. The router. Other devices are fine. I removed the obvious bloatware. Still nothing. I'm beginning to lose my mind. I check the drivers--I update them. Nothing.

In a rage, I begin removing every piece of software on the PC I viewed as non-important. Roughly around the point of me removing the Acer UEIP Networking and Acer Framework, my ping dropped to 30 and everything was running PERFECTLY. I was elated! I was estatic! I was happy!

Then I rebooted--and the same symptoms showed. Only now those two programs no longer exist for me to remove to fix. So I'm stuck back at the issue with no obvious resolution. Logically, they must have been re-installed upon reboot. I just can't find where.

Attempted fixes: See above.

Recent changes: Brand new computer, this issue existed on inception.

I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes

Below is a HijackThis log both to show every running process and that it is not a malware based issue. I just need to find this one program and destroy it. I hit it once--I just have to find it again. If need be, I can restore this back to the way it was when I grabbed it--there's only 2 days of terrible download speeds on it now. I just need to find out what program is throttling my bandwidth for this computer.

So I attempted a factory restore.

It wasn't as factory as I would have liked. It basically reset the laptop to the state I was in.

However, I had a hunch. I uninstalled ONE program and one program alone -- Acer Open Platform.

My net has normalized. My download speak is decent once more.

My question unfortunately remains: If I reboot my computer, I am terrified it will come back. Is there any way I can administratively force that program to never, ever exist again?

If you have problems after you reboot, switch to using the latest wireless drivers provided from the adapter manufacturer's website.

I CANNOT HANDLE BEING CALLED OUT ON MY DUMBASS OPINIONS ABOUT ANTI-VIRUS AND SECURITY. I REALLY LIKE TO THINK THAT I KNOW THINGS HERE

INSTEAD I AM GOING TO WHINE ABOUT IT IN OTHER THREADS SO MY OPINION CAN FEEL VALIDATED IN AN ECHO CHAMBER I LIKE

Also, if you're worried about bloatware, it's best to format the drive and re-install windows, that will get rid of the dumb poo poo that manufacturer's put on it for good. Then, once you're at a state that is comfortable (windows patching done, drivers installed/up-to-date) make a back-up/restore point.

I tried that before, but I suppose I didn't look on the actual website. It seems that what I thought was up to date slightly wasn't.

I've downloaded the .cab for my wireless ( Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 ) so I'll try that if it reoccurs.

After this reboot the problems ceased. I guess it really was just Acer Open Platform. Probably also exacerbated the first time by me deleting a lot of programs in a huff.

With JUST that gone, all seems to be alright.

Thanks everyone!

So! It happened again, but was cleared on a reboot temporarially.

Interestingly enough, I dug through the system logs for the exact time for any errors and found this:

Event ID 1014
Name resolution for the name geover.prod.do.dsp.mp.microsoft.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

And, now that the net is dying again, I find this:

Event ID 1014
Name resolution for the static-cdn.jtvnw.net timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Both are DNS Client Events

Is there any way to stop these from occurring?

Weirdest thing.

I use PingPlotter to show my ping, but I decided to do a traceroute for you guys:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>tracert Google.com

Tracing route to Google.com [216.58.217.110]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 521 ms 604 ms 440 ms Wireless_Broadband_Router.home [192.168.1.1]
2 1517 ms * * L100.PHLAPA-VFTTP-146.verizon-gni.net [96.245.73.1]
3 1258 ms 996 ms 1275 ms B3311.PHLAPA-LCR-22.verizon-gni.net [130.81.221.114]
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 * * * Request timed out.
6 370 ms 71 ms 282 ms 0.et-10-3-0.GW13.IAD8.ALTER.NET [140.222.235.37]
7 879 ms * 1229 ms 204.148.79.46
8 1528 ms * * 108.170.232.192
9 58 ms 206 ms 143 ms 209.85.143.255
10 12 ms 14 ms 12 ms iad23s42-in-f14.1e100.net [216.58.217.110]

Then I tried to ping a DNS server:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>nslookup dns.msftncsi.com
Server: Wireless_Broadband_Router.home
Address: 192.168.1.1

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
Name: dns.msftncsi.com
Address: fd3e:4f5a:5b81::1

This was AFTER:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
Ok.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
Ok.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>netsh int ip global taskoffload=disabled
The following command was not found: int ip global taskoffload=disabled.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled
Ok.

As well as disabling IPv6 connectivity.

Right after trying to ping the DNS and failing, for whatever reason, I seem to have fully recovered at least for the time being. I have NO idea what is going on but it makes me angry and confuses me.

I'd run this program and see what it says:
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5936-inssider.html

Also, use wired connection temporarily if possible and see if the issue keeps reappearing.

That seems okay. What kind of router is this? Make sure it has the latest firmware.
