i'm just kidding though, my real issue with Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six™: Siege is that it bases its corporate fan fiction canon off t-hunt which really just tacked onto the game when they should at least re-rewrite it to fit the blackist vibe of OPvOP warcrime gameplay in blatantly public environments. theres no way that even R6, as secret as they are, could afford to use the downtown bank of some random European country as a training ground

all he needs is a doorframe

his hard counter is Smoke's warcrime cannister. you can also use ela's grzmot mine to force his shield to collapse until he re-toggles it. otherwise it'll take some sneaky traps or good positioning to get above/under/behind him. an effective thing to do once you get some map knowledge is to wait till he forgets he is near wood and wallbang him.

he is more resistant to getting his shield knocked back than blitz or fuze which ironically makes him the most capable of aggresively pushing in to attack op4 under direct fire

p much. think of him like a tank in a game like WoW where your job is to hold aggro and not stand in the fire.

actively contesting the obj sends defenders into a panic and makes them do dumb poo poo outside of higher ranked games. the really good montes will troll enemy teams by letting his shield drop. it makes a loud audible que and forces them the snapshot their aim back at him to counter. with proper positioning and timing this splits their defense and lets your teammates effectively flank them.

you can use smokes and flashes to waltz right in and cause chaos.

you can sperg out with which pistok you like. sometime having more ammo to take pot shots with is better to pressure them than outright kill them with the revolver.

people that have high winrates more often than not use the clock wisely and in casual this means burning it to the last 30s to cheese kills

as someone said before a while back in the thread, anyone telling you how to play can be ignored. the core reason this game is so great is the flexibility in approach and variety of skills. use them how you see fit, you shouldn't be getting kicked often for playing the way you like unless it involves teamkilling people

silencers are personal preference and if you like to be super sneaky then go for it but otherwise they reduce your DPS so they aren't for everyone

extended barrel is for if you really seriously plan on doing long range sniping, which is almost never and requires a lot of map knowledge to make it worth it

if you like to run around a lot and snapshoot your kills then use angled grip, otherwise the more stable foregrip is the preferred option for many players because you tend to slow down and line up your angles and whatnot

compensator for magdumping

the others are for personal preference and it doesn't really matter unless you plan on playing DMR

attachments are dirt cheap in this game so even a starter edition player should field test them on their favorite operators.

certain characters/loadouts will have you shooting in tiny bursts. others will have you dumping 30 rounds at a time before needing to adjust for recoil.

loadouts that work for your MVP spawn peeking jager/vigil might not be what's best for your role on the given map and game mode.

the rabbit hole goes deeper if you like to play DMR and/or use semiauto toggles

at the end of the day i think these are for min/maxing and attachments shouldn't be why you are winning or losing even though fine tuned cyber athletes statistically tend to favor one thing or the other. and unless you plan on solo climbing into diamond none of this actually matters imo.

silencers work for me because i tend to focus on hit n' roam harassment. it doesn't matter if you can't land perfect head shots when you're using map knowledge to pick and choose you battles. for such a claustrophobic game there are actually very few dead ends in siege maps.

the sound design in this game is loving incredible and you can absolutely exploit it to make up for not getting headshots 24/7

just watch out for jackal mains because they specialize in countering players that rely too heavily on this tactic

it's also best to use silencers on the last round because there is an mvp screen at the end of each match and sometimes it just works well with your cyber barbie outfit (see: double silencer reflex sights on splinter cell jager because he don't need no acog)

the general perception of silencers is that they reduce too much damage to be effective but this is a game that lets you kill people in 1-3 hits so if you are focusing on getting the jump on people silencers will let you clown tryhards that only play 3 speed glass cannon peekers.

when deciding which operator to play look at the grid and the one that you find immediately interesting is the one you should go for

castle and tachanka are still fun even if they aren't gonna get you to diamond rank in your first week of playing and learning the game lol

castle was one of my early unlocks and he loving owned in low lvl matchmaking because new players have no idea how easy it is to melee 12 times before the last 30 seconds

everyone always tells new players to get rook but all that guy does is drop a box of armor. like he is literally more boring than a recruit imo. sorry rook mains, thanks for the t shirts tho

i feel like he is much more useful for keeping players "up" by topping them off as needed, sometimes preemptively

a funny thing to do is mildly ubercharge that rear end in a top hat on your team that is spawn peeking so that the only way to kill them is a direct headshot. that or doing all your own drugs and peeking with the revolver or acog

rook isn't bad. his ability just becomes passive after the prep phase. when playing him i find him less engaging than a recruit because they at least get nitro. and i don't think casual pubbies take advantage of the automatic down instead of death thing very often. they put the armor on and think they can get shot way out in the open without using low cover to give them the time needed to move to a place to be safely revived.

when i play a trap user or want to do sneaky roaming i like to avoid getting spotted before the round starts. when a rook is around they often forget to drop the armor immediately and i have to play around it because if i ignore it they will be sure to remind the entire team that "1 person forgot armor" and pinging the dufflebag every 30 seconds instead of covering their sector. i've been spotted more while putting my t shirt on than any other time. its so much easier to cheese that first kill when a casual team rushes into the far side of the map and has no idea its rigged with enough deathtraps that would surprise even Indiana Jones

tl:dr rook is cool and if you like him then certainly play him because that's all that actually matters lol

starter edition is literally a ripoff in terms of time it takes to unlock the free poo poo

buy the normal base level of the game. you don't need season passes. there are a few goons who have never spent a cent on these things and still have every DLC character because they play regularly.

this isn't a pay 2 win game so you won't be at a disadvantage if you just want to play the vanilla operators. before i bought a season pass i had unlocked a single DLC operator for like $5 so there's that as well. like if there is just one or two cool lookin' characters you wanna get and don't wanna drop all that money for a bundle then this is the cheapest way to get what you want quickly unless you want everything in the game

somewhere around gold you start having to win 2 or 3 but the tiers are very close in siege

you can literally get into the bottom of plat through matchmaker luck. that said, the mid ranks from like high silver to gold have seemingly definitive lines in terms of player skill. it starts to become harder and harder to get like 15 kills a game and still win. but in general ranked players are surprisingly chill even if you're losing they rarely surrender and a lot of the TKing i see is actually against tryhards that won't stfu and stop crying that the entire team is ignoring them

but then again, every now and then you run into a team that will take turns TKing you and throw the match because they are trying to derank while padding their K:Ds
