people talk poo poo about it because the developers were really smug about how their version of the game is so much more mature and sophisticated than the original series but it really really isn't DmC, Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z and Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 are the unholy trinity of trashy western versions of japanese action games
