I saw your posts in the Democrats thread, and you might not read this one, but I'm still gonna say "hey, don't get discouraged". Even if you don't want to go to meetings and don't want to get into some crazy elected position or whatever, you should try to go to a single meeting. Meet people, get some business cards/email addresses/phone numbers/whatever. You can still keep in contact with activists and do stuff from the comfort of your own home, like letting them know what's going on in your HOA/neighborhood that they might be able to help with. Activism isn't just "Rah Rah! I'm gonna man the phone banks for 6 hours a day and join 14 committees!", it's also people just hearing about poo poo and letting their local representatives/parties/charity groups know.

Hell, if you don't even want to do that much, and have a couple bucks to spare, find some good local charities and donate :10bux:.

I mean I want to get involved, it just becomes an energy and effort investment for me, which doesn't always go well. but i'm interested in doing what I can, anyway. the DSA is still meeting the rest of this month, so i can go to the next one. the dem party, though, real tough to break in. oh well.

I wonder what trying to join the Republican party is like? Is it equally difficult, or is it more streamlined? That might explain why they've got better ground game.

Not much there about economic justice and wealth inequality. I'd grill 'em on that, ask what they'll do to help people economically and figure out if they're neoliberal scum or what.

FYI, this was the status of the King's County DNC website as of 2012. It's been fixed now, and honestly it was a huge win. It's also not ineptitude, it is malice.

it is absolutely malice. anything and everything can be a political tool, and must be taken as such. trust no one.

How do I get a membership card for the DSA? I want more cool swag. I also want to make one of my NYRs advocating more for socialism and left wing policies, and I'm hoping getting more involved in the DSA would be good for that. I just want my work to not be pointless...not like typical (Young-)Democrat meetings 'n poo poo where nothing actually happens.

I might be healed up enough on the 9th to go, but I'll be recovering from surgery after Jan 5. I'll try and make it!

My next local (Duval County, FL) Democratic Party meeting is going to be held at a rum bar/Latin dance club, which... owns? Or not, since it'll likely be noisy and disorganized? Either way, I plan to drink and yell about Bernie.

Also Reagan Youth is playing a show at that same bar a week before the meeting, which has to be a sign of something.

drat, wish I had a chance to go while I was there for the holidays. Oh well.

Did we ever find out why the Massachusetts Dems capitulated and bent so hard over MJ legalization and pushed back the start date so far?

Got back from Jacksonville's Young Dems meeting a little while ago. Duval County is a big Republican stronghold in Florida (or as big a Republican stronghold as a large city in a swing state can be, anyway), but from the sounds of things the Democratic Party here is getting flooded with pissed-off millennials who are very into the idea of actually bothering to run candidates for every available seat. There's a proposed ordinance against LGBT employee discrimination that Dems here have been trying to push for years, and they're hoping it'll go through this time now that they've gotten a lot of local businesses and religious leaders on their side.

Oh my god. I'm actually a little proud of the place where I grew up now. I was in Ponte Vedra for like a decade and it sucked.
