Alright! Voting is closed! Thank you to everyone who has participated. Your entries have warmed the cockles of my cold dead heart and have provided me with entertainment as I battle colds over the holidays. The results are as follows: Congratulations, nine-gear crow and ACES CURE PLANES, for pulling off the win and proving that the internet loves anime jet planes. Send me a message and I'll set you up with your prize. The Mod's Choice Award still needs to be decided. Once I can get Fedule, JordanKai, and myself to settle on a decision, we'll announce that prize as well. Stay tuned! Sally fucked around with this message at 05:07 on Jan 6, 2017 |

Well, thank you to everyone who voted, not just for me, but for everyone in the contest. I'm incredibly humbled that you picked me for some weird, unknowable reason. Also, congratulations to Fae as the runner up. It was a hard fought fight. I abstained from voting myself because I didn't want to taint the results, but if I did vote it would have been for her video. Also per-emptive congratulations to the Mod's Choice winner too, whomever that may be.

Honestly I was happy to have a reason to play SSX again. Thank you guys for voting for me either way though.

SSX, at least in the early days, was a really fun series of games and it's too bad they basically became EA's idea of Tony Hawk games that hit the point of diminishing returns much, much faster. I hope to put on more contests! It's easy to get wrapped up in only a thread or two in this particular subforum and miss out on what everyone else is doing, so I'm hoping to come up with more ideas for bringing together everyone's creative abilities. (oh god that sounds so cheesy)

In honor of 2016 the next contest should simply be "worst level." Preferably with the requirement that it comes from a good game.

Worst non-gimmick level in an otherwise good game? Worst level that's basically the same as other levels in a good game, but is inexplicably terrible?

Alright! The time has come. The moderation team has discussed the videos at length and we've decided on our top 5 candidates:
With out final choice and ultimate winner being:
Congratulations, Faerie Fortune! You've won to Mod's Choice Award! Send me a PM and we can work out what sort of prize you'd like. Also, in keeping in line with this being a holiday themed contest, nine-gear crow and ACES CURE PLANES have made sure this thread is the gift that keeps on giving by giving the gift of giving--they had me give an upgrade to one of their posting pals. So way to thaw my cold dead heart. I believe I now have a pulse.

There plenty of other examples that would work well for this concept. Like Gigavolt Man-O-War's ride chaser level from Megaman X8, Meat Circus in Psychonauts, various escort missions.

You know what is worse? Non-stealth levels in stealth games. Most of the time the player character has limited/no health and is suddenly in high action mode after spending hours trying to avoid that situation because it means instant death. Looking at you, Splinter Cell's last five minutes.

I never had any issues with Meat Circus, either back in 2005 or playing the re-release in the modern era

Was that before or after the arcade game tower?

Alright, I'm gonna unsticky this thread so that our front page can be a little less decluttered. Thank you everyone who submitted entries to this contest! Faerie Fortune for the most charming snow art, casnorf for the animal noises and that weird moaning tube toy you can shake back and forth (those are great, i love those), Paul.Power for getting a FRANK and earning a Steam Achievement for this contest, Lazyfre for reminding me to rewatch Cliffhanger and Die Hard 2, PSWII60 for the insight into your teenage mind, DreamShipWrecked for making me laugh at Stalingrad (you monster), McKilligan for the timely LP crosspost (I hadn't seen that dlc yet!), Shinjobi for showing off the best kart racing battle level , Zenithe for pointing out one of my personal favourite snow levels that I'd forgotten about, Fish Noise for introducing me to a surprisingly funny game I'd never heard of (I hope you decide to release the shitpost video one day regardless!), skullhead tethyis for reminding me how dark Doom 3's engine can be, Tiggum for submitting a gaming classic (I award it 04.4 points), ModeWondershot for the neat PYF little things in games (that Auriga shows up in Endless Legend), IGgy IGsen for proving that hockey is more fun with motor vehicles, and... uh--nine-gear crow and ACES CURE PLANES, I guess, for inflicting upon us all more anime jetplanes. I think I've got everyone, apologies if I missed a person. I'm leaving the thread open, though, if people want to brainstorm future contest ideas. I like them and may want to use them in the future.

It was well after that, and not only was it a teleporter maze, it was a teleporter maze that if you stepped in the teleporters at the wrong time, you'd get sent off course and couldn't backtrack to where you hosed up right away. And what causes it gets more common the deeper you get.
