Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is a clone of the Commandos games, set in that other over-exposed game setting: feudal Japan. Control five characters as they sneak around enemy cones of vision, stash bodies, and exploit the hell out of dumb AI. Available now on Steam and GOG. PS4 and Xbone versions due in 2017. THE HEROES * Hayato - Of course there's going to be a ninja. Hayato has a shuriken that works like throwing knife of Fins. Reasonably silent, decent range, and can be retrieved. He can also distract enemies by throwing pebbles. * Aiko - Of course there's going to be TWO ninjas. Aiko is this games version of Frenchy. She even says "guten tag" every now and then when distracting an enemy. She can disguise herself as a geisha or a Shinto priestess. She also can toss sneezing powder to briefly shrink an enemy's cone of vision. * Yuki - Yuki can set a man-trap, and has a flute that can lure enemies to her position. * Mugen - Mugen is a big burly samurai who can take on three regular guards at once as is the only guy who can take on an enemy samurai in melee. * Takuma - In flagrant ignorance of historical accuracy, he has a repeating sniper rifle that he conceals in his cane and pegleg. He also has a trained Tanuki who is functionally similar to the dog from Commandos 2. THE ENEMIES The regular guards behave more or less like the average German grunt in Commandos. The guards who wear straw hats cannot be lured from their posts. Samurai are immune to most attacks, and must first be stunned with a pistol shot before any of your other characters can melee them. Or just send Mugen in. And they can see through Aiko's disguise, like the SS from Commandos. THE MAPS Unlike Commandos 2, which offered four pre-rendered perspectives of each map, the maps in BotS are all fully 3D and can be rotated freely. This also allows for more tactical freedom too. Hayato, Aiko, and Yuki can grapple onto roofs and do drop attacks on guards. In night missions, the enemy cones of vision will be much reduced, but light sources are extremely hazardous as they make you stick out like a Christmas tree against the darkness. On snowy maps, your footprints will betray your presence. BotS maps are full of hidey-holes! Not just buildings, but bushes as provide great concealment and are perfect for hiding bodies.
