Whats up with that. I just saw an add for a movie called Sing that'll probably be worse even than Secret Life of Pets. Whats up with adults going to see these dumbass movies. I think this is Shrek's fault somehow.

i heard that Secret Life of Pets was dark as hell, at least for a kids' movie with talking animals. i'm not entirely sure why they got Hannibal Buress to voice the dachshund, though. he's all chill and laid back, while wiener dogs bark and bite a lot

this is no different then people in the 90s going to see Heavy Metal or that rabbit movie. these young adults grew up with 3d animation not 2d animation and now theyre interested in more adult 3d animation (like sausage party)

Did not enjoy.

Sausage Party looked like a piece of poo poo, all it was missing was a sentient watermelon with big red lips going "oh lawdy, you know us waddamelons cayn't swim!" before raping a saltine with tits.

I thik disney mainline have been better then pixar since tangled, big hero 6 is imo the worst Disney animated film this decade and it just ok but fun. Zootopia is great since it more about the animals being representatives to human social issue then having a sexy pig dancing in furry american idol. Pixar peacked with up and have been going downhill since unless toy story 3 came out after up, then it was after toy story.

same thing with reading young adult fiction. it's really easy to connect to and get something out of. big broad themes, simple story structure, lots of uncomplicated emotions right on the surface and it usually delivers a lot of spectacle. think action movies without all the blood, or porn without all the big floppy ding dongs & nagging suspicion that 2/3rds of the cast are there because it was the only direction they could go to head away from the smoldering heap of rubble they called a childhood, or they just need money for powders. plus unlike all those "adult" genres it delivers that sweet, sweet nostalgia along with the easy high.

it's not like I'm condemning anyone either, that's just my interpretation of why childless adults get\stay super into children's media, enough so that it's a defining characteristic of their hobbies.

Pixar movies are really good at being entertaining and hitting you in the tear ducts. Most of the folks I know who enjoy such films are now parents, and will soon be entering the testing years of "how long can my toddler sit through this movie". If anything, people sometimes like a good cry. Side note: I remember checking out Prince of Egypt when it came out, mainly because I was interested in the artistic style of the animation. One thing that I still remember to this day: kids trying to calmly watch the movie about Moses while their annoying dad whispered every thing that just happened like they were missing brains and needed the narration. Just let them watch the damned movie, DAD.

There's animated children's movies that are made with thought and attention and trying to convey a nice message and be remembered (Kubo, most Disney movies, Shrek 1, Despicable Me) and there are also movies that are basically overmarketed and unfunny or otherwise lacking in anything memorable (Secret Life of Pets, Sing, Minions) and then there's a whole bunch of stuff in the middle that's neither great nor terrible (Frozen, Ice Age 1). You can generally tell which category any one of these falls into by the trailer. Why an adult would go to see anything Minions-tier even with their children nagging is unfathomable to me but people are dumb I guess.

i imagine the only reason they're making Despicable Me 3 is because they still need to keep those godawful minions at the front of everyone's minds for merchandising purposes. quality comes a distant second

The inspiration for this thread was me going to see Secret Life of Pets with my all adult family. They had a minions short at the start and the three women sitting behind us were choking up laughing at the trite juvenile bullshit. The main feature was also bad.
