Just watch it yourself? I imagine it can be sorta uncomfortable viewing, but goddamn it's good.

Just saw April and the Extraordinary World, and if you aren't sick of steampunk, I thought it was an absolutely charming movie.

While we're talking anime, I rewatched Colorful and Christ that movie kills me. I feel like I should double feature it with It's a Wonderful Life, but I imagine that would leave me a desiccated husk.

Miss Hokusai was really great, chill movie. Check it out.

I really liked Miss Hokusai, but note that the movie is basically just a series of vignettes. Great if you love slice of life type stuff, doubly so if you enjoy it in feudal Japan. Doesn't quite match up to Colorful, the director's previous effort, but very few movies probably can.

Watch Colorful.

What's with the Your Name hate the past couple pages :( Maybe if you're super sensitive to melodrama, I could see how it might be grating. I thought it was a cute story with a nice emotional core though :shobon: If you're going to watch a Shinkai film, Your Name is definitely his best effort and it wasn't as "cringy" (I guess?) as his other films.

I don't recall hearing about either of these movies here, but Filmspotting pointed me towards them so I will share them with the thread because these seem like cool and good movies.

Mary and the Witch's Flower, which is based on what remains of Studio Ghibli if the style didn't make that immediately obvious. Given how good When Marnie Was There was, I'm optimistic that these talented individuals can make a good movie without Miyazaki or Takahata:

The Breadwinner, which is from the studio that brought us The Book of Kells and Song of the Sea. It takes us from fantastical Ireland to, uh, Taliban controlled Afghanistan:
