That one is actually "Even though I got hit by a truck they said I couldn't reincarnate into a fantasy world, so I decided to work with the pretty girl." Presumably something like Konosuba except instead of taking Aqua with him to fantasyworld he just stayed in limbo or wherever with her.

We'll get to find out when they turn it into an anime after the other two upcoming isekai restaurant adaptations are smash hits!

Title: "Would You Like a Mother Whose Normal Attack Hits Twice and Targets All Enemies?"

High school student Oyoshi Masato finally got his wish of being transported into a fantasy game world, but for some reason his overly doting mother, Mamako, came too!? She lights up caves, puts monsters to sleep on her lap, interviews the girls at the guild who would join his party because "they might be your girlfriend one day honey," and is unparalleled in combat with just her normal attack (that hits all enemies twice using a holy sword), and is in general so overpowered it drives her son Masato nuts! The beautiful air-headed sage girl, Wise, and the soothing merchant girl, Porter, join them in an adventure to save not the world, but the bond between mother and son. The winner of the 29th Fantasia Award, an offbeat adventure comedy—with Mom!

it's just common sense. the first volume's cover is the one meant to grab new readers anyway. the covers of later volumes are more to keep people who are already reading going "oh i better buy this one too, i gotta know what happens next" which is not an effect that works on new readers most of the time

Agreed. And the "welp I just spoiled myself by looking up this series on mangaupdates" or whatever doesn't help.

I finished Magic of Stella. Nothing outstanding, but worth a sensible chuckle.

I know I'm a constant debbie downer about this stuff, but Magic of Stella in particular was a show where the translation just absolutely did not keep up with the jokes :( (i.e. the translator seemed to not get it was a joke and just did a literal translation, or flat mistranslated the line, several times per episode)

Not that it would have been amazing either way, but definitely at least one peg higher.

you could probably make an argument for oshiyama being forced to make "some random moe anime" if he hadn't had an extensive interview where he talked about how the only things that were really asked by producers were, like, a magical girl transformation every few episodes and the entire staff, including him, basically came up with everything else on their own

Apparently the demands from the top were more extensive than he let on in the published interview. In the same event as that Iso quote, an event where recording is not allowed and all we have are people's twitter notes to go on, we also got:

quote:

— Oshiyama talks about how the demands from up top put him in a pretty tight spot.

It's a little weird - I can't really think of many creative choices Flip Flappers made that seem like they're concerned with mass-market appeal, and I don't know what other sorts of things meddling executives would be inclined to demand from a show.

I think it was mentioned in that other interview that the magical girl transformations were something the producers asked for, as an example. It was originally going to be less action-focused.

z0glin Warchief

Despite that, it didn’t really occur to me to make Flip Flappers into an action anime. That came from the producer side, who requested adding things like “making the girls transform,” “having them fight using big weapons,” “having them transform once every two episodes,” etc., and as we included those aspects during creation, it ended up being a show with a lot of action.

This is the bit from the interview I was thinking of.

The Colonel posted:

more seriously, i can see how their actual new manga could possibly get really hosed up

It's way worse than even that description would imply. :nms:The younger brother is a robot the clockmaker woman made (a replacement for her real brother, who died), and she whores it out to older men so she can watch from a hidden camera and masturbate. The whole neighborhood knows about this and is totally fine with it, except for the woman's childhood friend who wants to marry her, who just acts exasperated about it. The tone is pretty light, cracking jokes about the robot's head falling off during "work" and poo poo, which just makes everything even creepier.:nms:

And this is in the same magazine that runs Futaribeya! And a cooking manga set in Antarctica! It's on Kindle Unlimited! I can't figure out how this got greenlit for the life of me.
