The two services basically decided not to directly compete, Funi is for dubs and Crunchy is for subs. I wouldn't trust that any subbed shows you want to watch on there will actually be available for long, they basically said that they're gonna be removing stuff as they transition.

I can't tell the difference between those diff pics. But yea Crunchyroll 1080p has always had issues. I've been watching it in 720p.

Any kind of constant bit rate video like what Crunchyroll uses is gonna have some scenes where the compression isn't noticeable at all and others where it's REALLY noticeable. Doubly so because it's anime, which can compress way more before you get noticeable issues than regular video. It sucks but I can see why someone at CR made that choice. I'd love it if CR spent more money and we got really really good image quality but that's probably not happening anytime soon. The real solution would be variable bit rates, where action scenes are sent at a higher bit rate from scenes that can be compressed more, but since Crunchyroll can't buffer ahead more than like 30 seconds that would probably screw poo poo up.
