Do you care about schools or proximity to nightlife?

Basically, avoid Laurel, PG county and Glen Burnie. I'd stick to Anne Arundel (cheaper) or Howard county. Everywhere else you can determine by driving around and just looking at the neighborhood. They're building new apts, condos and shopping all over odenton. I've lived in the area almost 9 years and the change is crazy. They just opened the largest Ruth Chris steakhouse in odenton of all places right by the MARC. Crofton just opened a Bonchon this week.

I would really try to minimize your commute as the state highways haven't upgraded to handle ft. Meade traffic yet. I drive to downtown DC every day and spend about 75 mins door to door.

I don't really give a poo poo about touristy stuff, and I've been to the UK before (albeit in the North, which is probably entirely different) so I've done the majority of "British" things. Side note: northern England is great and everyone should rent a car and spend a week or two driving on the wrong side of the road to explore it.

MSNBC The Profit did a great show on the marijuana business Wednesday. Desert Springs CA was going broke until they allowed mass growers to build. Costs them $15 mil a year to run the town. They made $50 mil in taxes last year on the growers alone. This is a town that went bankrupt twice.

I think you two are disagreeing on different air and space (mall vs. Dulles) museums.

E:. I'm a daily DC commuter from MD. I can't stand my commute. As a Fed, I could transfer anywhere. But the schools are keeping me here along with my awesome assignment. I hate this city between cherry blossom festival and labor day for both weather and crowds. Once the mindless tourists leave, then the commute gets worse.

I will say that there is no shortage of things to do on weekends like Annapolis, Alexandria, Baltimore, Gettysburg, Philly. All completely different. The restaurant scene and gentrification has really changed DC.

Like two weeks ago I booked a hotel room in Alexandria for my interview on the 19th and 20th.

I got an email an hour ago from the company asking me if I will be needing a hotel at their expense.

Is this common? Should I wait for the company to handle lodging for me if I have another out of town interview?

Is that something that is appropriate to ask ahead of time?

I interviewed with Apple and MS. They both paid for flight, room, rental car and per diem. Amazon reimbursed me for driving to NOVA. All three paid for relocation if hired with temp housing.

(MS declined me, never heard back from Amazon, and Apple offered me my current salary in San Jose. Sooooo, just counting down my 5.5 years to retirement and do it all over again.)
