AFAIK 5's problems were in part because a bunch of experienced people from DICE jumped ship, so it wasn't just normal shipping an MVP game and fixing the jank after, but they lost all the people who knew how to set up at least a good foundation to fix jank later and actually address problems. Frostbite has also historically suffered from extreme in-house engine disease, so losing the small group of people with the tribal knowledge to work around its bullshit exacerbated the problem. Maybe that's since improved since EA wanted Frostbite to be a better general-purpose engine they could use throughout the company and hired talented-enough people to un-gently caress it from whatever state it was in when they rolled out Anthem.

it's a shame paradox ran HBS into the ground, though i think the battletech lead designer left before that and idk what she's doing professionally nowadays

facialimpediment posted:This kind of thing is especially weird when there's such demand for sequels. Kind of like how the XCOM series is basically on ice because Firaxis decided Marvel's Midnight Suns was a good idea. it aint quite that. Firaxis owns the XCOM IP and will be making an XCOM 3: the studio is known for exactly two IPs and there's no way in hell they're not gonna make more of those. Jake Solomon wanted to do "something else" and Firaxis was willing to let him run with it, understandably so given that Marvel is a big IP and Jake's worked miracles for them in the past. didn't quite work but hey, Midnight Suns is still a good game, if a commercial failure. the devs and game designers are still largely in place though comparatively, the Battletech videogame IP is owned by Microsoft and Paradox didn't want to pay them for it again. they put HBS to work on some completely new Lamplighter's League IP that flopped hardcore and, AFAIK, basically liquidated the studio. it is gone

CainFortea posted:The big key to BG3 is that you shouldn't try to do everything on one play through. Not only is it actually not possible, but it leaves plenty left for other playthroughs. eh, you can still be pretty completionist about sidequests even if you can't do all the solutions to them and can't really do the standard-ish good/evil paths in one playthrough. i got attached to my tav and wanted them to experience all the world had to offer except bear sex. illithid sex okay though. if you're strapped for time (because there are so many good games to play) to do multiple playthroughs you may as well try to explore and do as much as you can
