Jesus, first lawyer job on his resume is Trump. Might be worse than writing "registered sex offender" at the top.

Always be asking for more. "yo, you know another 5k would make that a whole lot more competitive with what's going on at other places" and if that don't fly (and even if it does) remember the less tangible stuff. Extra week's holiday a year, tax advantageous stuff, free parking, loving free dry cleaning if they do that, always be asking for a bit more.

Also don't veterans represent tax benefits for the companies that hire them? I think it Florida here if you're a disabled vet who has been long term unemployed (ie. School) you are worth about 16k in tax credits in the first year to the company that hires you full time. I'm sure other states have similar. Don't quote me on those exact figures but I'm pretty sure I'm in the ball park.

True. I wasn't clear but I was actually thinking specifically of cole's case of not feeling like you're worth extra, when in fact there's a dollar value attached to your veteran status. Squeezing out extra in your negotiation is not gonna tighten them up as hard when they know it's not gonna really hit them for another year, where he might've been in line to be bumped up to that amount anyway. Anyway, my message is always be hustlin'

You could probably look at the national geospatial intelligence agency. Apparently pretty vet friendly.

I got that email on Friday as well, which is the first time I've gotten an email like that I'm pretty sure. I'm basically in the same boat, doesn't show up on ebenefits or poo poo. The email did mention that poo poo would get processed in the order it was received, so it could be today, could be december. Go VA!

Hey my dudes, I met a vet today and he's having a rough time of it, having trouble with a math class. It's his second go round for this course, and he needs to pull out some magic to pass but he's pretty sure that's not gonna happen. So someone has told him that the VA will not pay for a third attempt at a course and he's super bummed out by that, but I'm not sure that's right. It was my understanding that the VA would at least spring for 3 as long as you turned up and did your course work and didn't just flake out or withdraw or whatever. Anyone shed some light on this? Preferably with a link so I can show him, because goddamn this poor bastard looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders.

I'm at a loss for an apprenticeship in something chemistry heavy. Otherwise there's machining, welding, carpentry, plumbing, painting which have a tentative relationship to proper chemistry? Unless I'm missing an obvious one.

Kawasaki Nun posted:You can try to switch to Voc Rehab if you have a VA disability rating of 20% or above (10 if you have a serious workplace hinderance). That gives you an automatic 12 month extension and the possibility of additional time if your case worker determines it is necessary Yeah, that's basically what I did. I took this semester off because I'm a bit burnt out on school, and I was running out of GI Bill anyway. Think I'm down to a few months. So I jumped on the Voc Rehab bandwagon and they must've thought I was a mess because they said "yeah, you're approved until you are done with your degree". But normally and extra 12 months on top of your GI Bill is approved no problem at all. Just don't burn up your last day.

Yeah, voc rehabs job is to get you back into the workforce. It can be used to sit a few weeks of courses to get some certs, trade school, or a degree. You have to sell your plan, but it isn't a hard cell. After the initial intake they get you to put together some poo poo. Like what training you want to do, where you want to do it, and what jobs are currently on offer. It's a simple process. There's a few things to work around though. Obviously you aren't getting earthmoving and a commercial drivers license if you have seizures. You're not getting a degree in pre medieval anime poetry analysis because there's no jobs for it. And as long as you've got a single day left of post 911 benefits left you'll get paid at that rate for the duration of your voc rehab. Otherwise there's a base rate but unless you love in buttfuck Arkansas your post 911 is gonna be more. There's other benefits and drawbacks but that's the general jive of it all.

Bruce Boxlicker posted:Oh, I probably should have posted this here when it happened. Last spring term was the end of my benefits. When they expired, they dropped $17k in my account as some sort of 'kicker'. When I called the GI Bill people they said that it was a current thing going on to give vets that finished out their benefits a boost to continue on with their school or work. If any of you are sitting near the end you should maybe check if this applies to you and finish out your education benefits. Okay so has anyone got any more info on this because I can't find poo poo on Google.
