One Big Happy is consistently good. I like the cast a lot, especially the old people (like that scary lady or the mean grandma Ruthie was talking to last week)

Ruthie and Hilary Forth are the best comic strip children. Now-defunct Stone Soup's Holly is probably the worst.

Knock yourself out. Holly is the blonde girl and Alix is the younger sister - a bit of a tomboy.

Correction - it's now Sundays only. And that's 52 times a year too many.

It's been a long, long time since I read Stone Soup, but I feel like retrospectively it embodied a lot of what people dislike about newspaper strips. Am I painting it wrong?

Generic family strip. Holly is the textbook self-absorbed teenage girl.

My grandmother (who died at age 89 in 1981) did this. She would cook the slivers in a small pot on the stove, wait for it to cool, and cut it into small bars. She raised nine children through the Depression.

I have inherited the "use the gently caress out of it" method of things from her.

I grew up in the 70s and we did have a PBS station, but it was too far away to pick up without a mast antenna. If the weather was right you could, but it was fuzzy as hell.

They finally hit my retail pet peeve. loving you over in your schedule and then belly aching when you ask for any accommodation. As if what they are doing is fine, but when you do it, you are a jerk.

I had this happen once when I was working part time at a convenience store. I asked for a Sunday off four months in advance. The manager said to keep reminding her the closer the date came. I did. She scheduled me anyway. I told her I wasn't going to show up. I ended up trading with someone else.

I finally quit by not showing up on a busy Friday afternoon and she had to work my shift - 4pm to midnight - after she had been there since 8am that morning.

M*A*S*H started going downhill after the sixth or seventh season. You could probably compress the last five seasons into one really good one.
