Its if I remember skeletons soecifically, and its one of the many laws that they have they can apply to gently caress over media producers who arent properly connected. They have another whole set of media laws that exist to protect the party image such as no time travel (that alters history such that the party doesnt exist or is portrayed badly)

Just recently they passed a law that put caps on the number of Wuxia style adventure shows that can be made at one time, person who passed the law is affiliated with multiple production houses that produce them and they all get first pass at the quota amounts.

My favorite China censorship moment was when they added all these new media restrictions only to find out that the content of several of their 'Four Great Classical Novels' would not pass approval.

Of course, they made an exception because hypocrisy.

That's not at the second run theater that ones only $1.75 all day. Our Regal just has the first showing be $5 and then jumps it to nearly $8 before 5 and then it goes up even more.

I saw 2014 Godzilla twice, and the 2nd time we got DBOX tickets because they were having a promotion. It was actually pretty neat. The seats don't shake per se, more like they're on little platters that let them tilt, rotate a bit and there are controls to disable or make 1-3 strength. We were both laughing when it starts on a helicopter swooping around and the seats kind of moved with the swoop. I assumed it would be a distraction from the movie but we ended up having fun - for the right movie/attitude at least. Not worth the high price it normally commands though (although even IMAX pushes that for me).

Brett Ratner criticizes Rotten Tomatoes

http://ew.com/movies/2017/03/23/ratner-tomatoes-scores/

quote:

“The worst thing that we have in today’s movie culture is Rotten Tomatoes,” said Ratner, whose company RatPac Entertainment co-financed Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (among dozens of other Warner Bros. titles). “I think it’s the destruction of our business. I have such respect and admiration for film criticism. When I was growing up film criticism was a real art. And there was intellect that went into that. And you would read Pauline’s Kael’s reviews, or some others, and that doesn’t exist anymore. Now it’s about a number. A compounded number of how many positives vs. negatives. Now it’s about, ‘What’s your Rotten Tomatoes score?’ And that’s sad, because the Rotten Tomatoes score was so low on Batman v Superman I think it put a cloud over a movie that was incredibly successful.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Batman v Superman cost about $250 million to make and grossed nearly $900 million worldwide — despite being considered a disappointment (with a 27 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes).

“People don’t realize what goes into making a movie like that,” Ratner continued. “It’s mind-blowing. It’s just insane, it’s hurting the business, it’s getting people to not see a movie. In Middle America it’s, ‘Oh, it’s a low Rotten Tomatoes score so I’m not going to go see it because it must suck.’ But that number is an aggregate and one that nobody can figure out exactly what it means, and it’s not always correct. I’ve seen some great movies with really abysmal Rotten Tomatoes scores. What’s sad is film criticism has disappeared. It’s really sad.”

The first trailer depicts 47 as some kind of unstoppable force, something out of a horror movie. It pretty much keeps the narrative from the first act. It is good (even tho it lacks the stealthy approach that defies the character/games).

The second trailer spills the beans and tells you that 47 is not the bad guy. It is terrible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv7lgQ8hiz0

They had the right idea to start things of, but I guess they thought "47 is not the bad guy" couldn't be a third act twist or they were simply not capable of building a movie around that. Such a shame.

I had to at least appreciate the fact that 47 was only a "good guy" insofar as (do I need to spoiler this? does anyone care?) he was protecting secret girl hitman so he could get to her father, who was his assassination target and he didn't really have a moral imperative driving his actions.

So Ratner's complaint is that Rotten Tomatoes turned people off from seeing BvS, a film that critics hated but audiences still went to in droves? Uh...

Yeah, RT sucks but he doesn't have a leg to stand on there.

So much Sandler

quote:

The two Sandler films already released under his previous deal are the streaming giant's top film releases ever.

Netflix is staying in the Adam Sandler business.

The company has inked a new four-film deal with Sandler to create original projects for its streaming service. Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions will produce each film, which will premiere exclusively on the streaming service.

Netflix first inked a four-film deal with Sandler in October 2014. The first two films released under that deal — The Ridiculous 6 and The Do-Over — are the biggest film releases ever for the service.

"Adam Sandler is one of the leading comedians in the film world, and his movies have proven to be extremely successful with our subscribers around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer. “We are thrilled at the opportunity to extend our partnership with Adam and his entire team at Happy Madison and keep the world laughing.”

The third film under Sandler's Netflix deal, Sandy Wexler, is set to launch on the streaming platform on April 14. The romantic comedy set in Los Angeles in the '90s stars Jennifer Hudson, Kevin James, Terry Crews, Lamorne Morris, Nick Swardson, Rob Schneider and Jane Seymour.

American Akira is back again for the 4000th time!

quote:

Since 2002, Warner Bros. has tried and failed to come up with a live-action take on Akira. The hugely popular franchise is an iconic one for manga and anime enthusiasts, but Warner Bros. hasn’t been able to get it right. Since the studio acquired rights for the film, five directors have left the project for various reasons. It’s been quite some time since fans have heard anything about Hollywood’s live-action take on Akira.

However, that is all about to change now.

Earlier today, reports surfaced that Warner Bros. is ready to actively begin pursuing an Akira film. Jeff Sneider from Meet The Press recently told fans that his sources have told him the studio is circling two directors at the moment. Daniel Espinosa (Life) and David Sandberd (Lights Out) are reportedly being courted by Warner Bros. for the job.

Sneider went on to say that Sandberg seems to be less likely to take on the project given his current work with Warner Bros. However, Espinosa appears interested in a franchise gig and may very well jump at this chance.

http://comicbook.com/anime/2017/03/24/warner-bros-akira-live-action-film-update-director-anime/

Announcing this right in the middle of very vocal objections to whitewashing and white saviors in recent media like Iron Fist, Ghost in the Shell, and Deathnote seems like bad timing. Whatever happens, this movie will be an amazing clusterfrak as I've been predicting for over a decade now.

Adam Sandler legit makes me sad. He popped up on a recent Conan sketch, among many others 'auditioning' to pay Han Solo. It was a mixed bag, but Sandler's was by far the worst. It was amazing to hear the audience excited to see him (as they were for everyone) and hear that enthusiasm vanish.
