The worst person in the world was absolutely fantastic, caught me a bit by surprise and might just be my favorite film of the year over cmon cmon and dune. 9/10

Don't look up... Eh. feels harsh, but i really did not enjoy much about it at all. If anything i actively disliked its writing. Felt like what you see in TV in gta 4. Really, like whoever writes the gta satire wrote a whole film. 2/10

Benedetta. Got some rough spots, and far from my favorite film of the year. But really enjoyable 7/10

A taxi driver. For whatever reason thought this was a comedy. It wasn't. But it was good. 7/10

Cmom cmon. Beautiful all around. Obviously we knew phoenix could act, but that kid is also great. So are the interviews. 9/10

New Matrix. Pretty bad tbh. But had an enjoyable middle part at least. 3/10

Boogie nights. First time l watched this. A bit late i know. But drat, what a cock. 8/10

French dispatch. Fairly meh, especially for Wes Anderson standards. 5/10

Raw. Liked titane but liked this even more. 8/10

Lamb. A bit slow, but looked good and was creepy. 6/10

Last night in soho. Good for the most part, but the ending part kind of sucked rear end. 6/10

The green Knight. Nothing too amazing, but i liked it quite a bit anyway. 7/10

The humans. Ended just when it finally got interesting. 3/10

House of gucci. Could have been a lot more, and Leto sucked even more than i imagined he would. Still decent and enjoyable. 6/10.

Spencer was.... Alright. Had some really nice cinematography, but Diana's character just felt a bit over the top. Maybe I'm wrong, but I didnt buy into her acting like that. Kristen Stewart was fine, seemed more like a script thing. 6/10

Badlands 8/10: Good film, almost wanted to give it 9/10. We have quite a few of these films, but it did it really well and probably one of the earlier ones to do it. Beautiful shots.

Saint Maud 6/10: Having watched First Reformed recently it was just... Not that impressive.

There Will Be Blood 8/10: Good film and enjoyable performances from all the actors. Loved the look of the film.

Phantom thread: 7/10: Another good Daniel Day-Lewis performance, but the story itself just didn't do all that much to me.

A Brighter Summer Day: 9/10: How can a four hours long film not even feel bloated?! I dont know, but it didnt. Some stunning cinematography

Oslo, august 31st: 3/10: So ok, I know people really like this. But it felt like the same social realist boring rear end film I've seen 100 times before. Boring script, pretty good acting.

Drive my car 4.5/5: Just a fantastic film all around. One of the better ones of 2021 for me for sure. Debating giving it 5/5, might just end up on that on a rewatch.

The Tragedy of Macbeth: 2.5/5: It's very possible I am just too dumb for this film, but I certainly felt like I didnt quite get it all. A few really good performances however, especially from the witch. Also looked amazing at times... and then really cheap at other times.

Red Rocket: 4.5/5: Surprised at how much I liked this, Simon Rex is packing! and he can actually act?! Maybe I just missed him being in more serious stuff before, but first time Ive seen him be legit good.

Waves: 2.5/5. I liked the second half a lot more than the first. Tries to a big to deep for its own good, and doesnt quite hit it. Was alright though.

Days of Heaven: 4/5. I think I preferred Badlands slightly to this. But I liked it quite a bit. Beautiful.

Pleasure: 1.5/5. Unlike Red Rocket, most of the people in this film can not act. Could have been a good film on the porn industry, but ends up just feeling a bit meh. Some of it is straight up pornographic, I dont mind that, but fair warning to anyone. What I do mind is the plot and everything just kind of going nowhere.

Platoon: 3.5/5 . Never watched this, and never realized how many films and so on parodied a certain death scene lmao. Pretty good film, some horrific stuff shown, but also a bit loving silly at times.

The Innocents 8/10. I did not expect this film to be this out there, or that graphic. But I highly recommend it. Kind of gone under the radar in 2021. At the end of the film you just know you dont want to ever have kids.

Booksmart: 6/10. Was fun enough, but also started getting bored halfway through. Nothing I will ever consider watching again, but I like Jonah Hills sister.

Fallen Angels: 7/10. Ended up being way less invested in this than in Chungking Express. Everything just felt a bit... Below that film, despite seemingly trying to go for a lot of the same things.

The Master: 6/10. I love cults, I've liked every Paul Thomas Anderson films so far... But ... This isnt one of my favorites. Not bad though.

Antlers: 3/10. The little boy is good, but gently caress me, this got boring fast. Real crappy CGI too.

Lady Macbeth: 6/10. Florence Pugh titties.

Come and See: 9/10. Fantastic acting and horribly depressing. Some of the scenes in that film are just haunting.

Ida: 5/10. Didn't really get that invested in the plot. I know people loving love this, but just didnt do all that much for me.

Snowpiercer: 5/10. Can certainly see this is his first attempt at an English film. Nice ideas, but fairly mediocre.

The Naked Gun 9/10. I forgot just how fantastic these are.

Scream (2022) 8/10. Alright, let me first say that Scream was my first real horror film when I was very young, like 7 years old. I was scared as gently caress, but I loved it, and ran around with a ghostface mask on whenever I could. I still liked Scream 2 alright, but then it really fell off and I lost my love for it. But this felt like a return to form for me. The meta commentary was layered on extremely thick, it was pretty silly at times, and the gore got dumb. But in a way I absolutely loved. Entertained from start to end.

Sonatine 6/10. I think this might be a great sin of me to say. But I did not love it. It was fine and I was entertained enough, and I did learn a lot of new fun beach activities. But other than that... It just didnt do it for me. Been going through a lot of Asian cinema lately that was unknown to me, and loved most of the highly praised stuff. But this one not so much.

Metro Manila: 8/10. I spent a long time in the Philippines working, so I would say I somewhat know the culture and vibe of the big cities. This nailed it for me, although I know I'm far from an expert in Filipino poverty, and I was surprised to see it was from a UK director. Dragged out a bit at the end, but had a nice pay off.

Florida Project: 9/10. Already watched this, but I wanted to go back and re-watch after Red Rocket. Think I prefer it, but only slightly.

Zombieland: 4/10. It was ok with a few laughs, but overall very forgettable.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire 3.5/5. I liked it, but was a bit disapointed after seeing all my friends love it. It was just pretty good for me. Disappointing lack of graphic lesbian scenes, they were pretty tame, French cinema wtf

Petite Maman 4.5/5. Extremely short, but felt like the perfect lenght for this film. Touching and nice, good acting by the kids.

Licorice Pizza 4/5. Not close to Boogie Nights or There Will Be Blood, but otherwise my favorite PTA film

The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1/5. It wasnt as bad as Spiral, but it was close.

Swiss Army Man 2.5/5 eh? Farts are funny though.

Starlet 2/5. Was ok. I like a good look into the porn industry, but this just didnt feel like it had much to say.

Tangerine 3.5/5. Clearly this is when Sean Baker started really finding his form as a director. Even though it is shot with a loving iphone 5s.

Watched Speak No Evil (out of frustrations of X not showing here), was a nice surprise. The family drama/tension game me hereditary flashbacks, but while it never goes supernatural or so on, it does have a few very uncomfortable moments to watch.

Was a bit sceptical due to Danglish in the trailer, and people usually overhyping our own films. But i think it was really good, even though i think the Danish mom was out performed by everyone, even the kids in the film. A few brutal scenes, that I imagine some people will react harshly to. But if you like horror films and dont mind a few graphic scenes, I will highly recommend.

GoodTime 4.5 Slept on this way too long. Great performance by Pattinson.

The Batman 4/5 A very good beginning, one of my favorite batman films for sure.

37 Seconds. 2.5/5. Definition of mediocre.

Mother 2009 (not the aronofsky one) 4/5 . Well that got to me. Really sad but also good film. Not quite as good as Parasite or Memories of murder, but less can do sometimes.

River’s Edge 3/5. Kind of strange film, but enjoyable. I cant believe that guy wasnt Bill Ponderosa.

Fargo 3/5 . Buscemis balls was certainly a nice highlight, but overall just a decent film.

Shoplifters 4/5 . Nice surprise. Do recommend.

X 3/5 . Was entertained enough all the way through, wasnt too long. But not anything I want to see again.

Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy 5/5 Terrible title. Amazing film and better than drive my car imo.

Prisoners 4.5/5. Great film, that ending almost put it down to a 4 for me. But I still enjoyed it a lot.

Nightcrawler 4/5. omg he is literally me (and by he, I mean the guy who just sucks up to his 'boss')

Turning Red 1.5/5. I really really did not like this. I am a bad person clearly.

The Fallout 2.5/5. Eh it was alright

Uncut Gems 3.5/5. Worse than good time for sure. But still fairly good, and very pretty.

You wont be alone 4/5. Surprisingly cool take on a classic witch story. I've seen a lot of people say it's like if the witch was directed by Terrence Mallick, and that kind of checks out.

Winter Light 3/5. Not my favourite Bergman film, but fairly good. Loved First Reformed which clearly took a lot of inspiration from this.

Crimes of the Future (2022). 3/5. Feel like it could have been really good, if half the props didnt look like kids toys.

Hatching (2022). 3/5. A better version of Turning Red.

The Black Phone (2022) 2.5/5. The most mediocre film possible.

The Menu 4.5/5. I didn't really know what kind of movie it was, and certainly didn't prepare for comedy. But I thought it was quite funny, and I love horror comedy.

Malignant 2/5. Wasn't as bad as a friend told me. But yeah... still wasn't great.

Matilda Musical 4/5. Honestly one of the better kids films i've watched in a long time, do not regret putting that on to get some peace.

Glass Onion 2/5. Way worse than knives out for me. All the characters except Blanc were kind of boring, the mystery didn't grab me, and the satire on rich dumb people didn't work for me nearly as much as triangle of sadness or the menu.

Tar 5/5. Absolutely loved it. Saw people say it's an 'anti woke' film and... uhm, gotta wonder if they also watched the house that jack built, and thought we were meant to be cheering for Jack.

This is probably the most overrated film of 2023 I've seen. It's alright, but with some big flaws as well imo. Every single character seems to just say the worst possible thing, or do the worst possible thing, to progress the story. Some of the moves that are made here just dont seem very believable to me. Also some quite poor acting from some of the kids, although the main actress is good.

Also I need to be paid more

I hate to sound like a baby who hates slow paced films, but really... I remember very little that happened. I do realize the point is to show how mundene their lives are, right next to horrific stuff happening. The first few times you heard the horrors in the background it worked, but as it went on, it just wasnt as effective. Maybe that is also part of the point of the film, to lure you into that mindset. But I didnt find it all that interesting or well executed in the end. Sandra Hüller gave one of, if not the best performance on the year with anatomy of a fall imo. But in this she is just forgetable.
