it's half a rack full of drives. it's archived data from an old project. it's turned off until someone needs data then i turn it on and hope it comes up. Only one server has the proprietary NIC to connect to the SAN - it shares it out over SMB.

The people who use the data are not willing to pay for a replacement because the data is just nice to have, not super important. They know that it could all disappear one time when I turn the array one and are OK with that.
It's basically best case scenario for dealing with hardware like this.
I do not know who decided it was a good idea to buy this setup, that was before my time.

The worst thing is that the server that shares out the files is right next to the controller, it could just have easily been SAS or FC or any other sane standard

i tried using ethernet over power and it was garbage and slow. then i started picking up DHCP from one of my neighbors routers because apparently they were using the same model of EoP adapter or something. the lesson is don't use ethernet over power i guess

so you're saying that you and your neighbor both have the same powerline adapters and they aren't paired right?

i think the powerline sets all share a common key across the model range and are paired out of the box, but you should redo the pairing process when you first get them so a new set of keys can be generated
