How much have they changed since I stopped playing, like six months after the PS3 release? They were way better than previous GTA games but still really primitive then.

I never touched the last-gen version so I can't speak from personal experience, but when I googled looking to see if I was missing a setting or something the first article I read said the new versions got a patch that added some stuff like dead zone and acceleration sliders that specifically weren't in the 360/PS3 versions. Then once the patch installed I got caught up doing everything but the actual core gameplay so I don't think I've even tried the new controls in a gunfight, but at least walking around feels much better. At first it felt like the release Witcher 3 controls where it seems like you're in drunk mode the whole time. I hope the shooting's better -- the intro sequences of the botched bank heist and the first repo mission were hellacious.

Huh, a day after I picked up GTA5 for my next game after HZD, Nier (which I really wanted to play next, but has been out long enough that I can't bring myself to pay full price) drops to $40 at Gamestop. gently caress it, I'll just go grab that too and juggle them. GTA is something I can easily drop and pick up again as I please if I get interested in other things, and Nier seems to have natural stopping points where you might want to play something else for a few days.

Got a sweet theme in my email for platting HZD, wasn't expecting that two days later. I wish there was a button you could hit on the home screen to hide all the menus and stuff.

How long do I need for that opening section of Nier: A where you can't save?

I guess the blessing of suspend/resume makes that not really an issue but I am curious.

Started Nier; prologue took me two tries cause if the game ever told me you can manually heal, I missed that until I went into the menu and looked at the controls and giant spinny blades are my gaming bete noire. I did get to beat a huge robot to death with its own arm, so that was cool. Made it through the desert and I'm having a lot of fun, see the same flaws as everyone else but still confident I'm not going to end up in the camp who just doesn't get it but I gotta say: I have never played a game that would benefit as much as this would from looking better. I'm not a graphics guy, and it doesn't look bad, it's just that the live visuals (especially the environments) don't come close to realizing the strength of the character design you see in the cutscenes and the general stylishness the game displays in every other respect. There's a wealth of awesome, weird ideas that went into every aspect of this game's design but they're all set against the backdrop of gray concrete and beige sand. Why?

I wouldn't want anyone to spoil it for themselves, but if you're absolutely stuck on the fence, the "this cannot continue" boss fight would be the thing you could look at and instantly tell if you want to know what this game is about or not.

Nobody's wrong about Skyrim or late Bethesda in general but I get the appeal of Skyrim VR. The combat and story suck but the thing that game had going for it is the geography -- it's just a cool place to walk around as long as you don't have to interact with any of their garbage systems. I still remember getting on a horse and just riding aimlessly, trotting around a curve in the road past an awesome mountain to see a giant shepherd tending a flock of mammoths and being blown away. Don't remember a single story beat or cool battle but that stuck with me. I bet it doesn't hold up but VR is probably enough of a gimmick to make it work again.

I was enjoying Nier from the start, but finding it something I could only play for a little bit at a time before drifting back to something lighter for a longer session -- GTA at first, MLB 17 since I just picked it up. One of the PS+ games for July will be something called That's You (but you'll still get the normal amount of games on top of that). I didn't know what it was but apparently the thing about it is it's one of the introductory titles for the Playlink feature, which I had to look up -- some kind of social/party thing where other people in the room get to influence the gameplay with a phone app, designed to get normies into gaming I guess? I don't know what this game is but that sounds lame and doomed.

By the mid-late game I felt like I could tank a good amount of damage on normal but a lot of it is on the other side, you'll be killing or stunning enemies much faster once you have better weapons. Also ripping parts off with tear weapons to disable nasty attacks is a big part of fights against enemies with big HP pools.

DX:MD completely fell off everyone's radar for some good reasons but it's easy to forget that it was modestly well received at launch. I'd say if you've got the time it's well worth $9. It's really unfortunate that they clearly chopped the story up for sequels and then the studio got canned, but there's some pretty solid gameplay and level design; the main plot won't hold much interest but the sidequests and little bits of atmosphere you find while exploring aren't bad.

A google search finds a whole bunch of other people who have had this issue, and the only solution seems to be 'yeah the psn site sucks, buy it through your console'. Can I seriously just not buy the fuckin' game?
Buy PSN credit on Amazon (instantly digital delivery) or wherever you like and use that to pay. It sucks but it happens all the time to credit cards or Paypal and then the next day they'll work fine.

The "trailer" for the rest of the game got me super stoked but I'm gonna let it sit for a few days. Started Hearts of Stone as my palate-cleanser after N:A route B and I'm very torn between two comparisons to HZD. Even only after the opening questlines that set up what the story of the expansion is going to be, the writing and voice work are reminding me that as much as I generally enjoyed HZD's, TW3 genuinely was a cut above (and this isn't even the expansion people really like!). But the mechanics and UI, patched several times since I beat the base game, still feel simultaneously shallow and insanely complicated, like you're asked to juggle five different versions of HZD's sore-thumb D-pad item interface without it really mattering that much.

I took a break of a few weeks shortly after starting B and enjoyed it when I returned and had forgotten more about A. Later in B is when you get some plot doled out that you didn't see in A, when you finish there's a little like trailer for the rest of the game that got me really pumped, but I'm taking another break to finally play TW3: Hearts of Stone before starting C.

Speaking, Hearts of Stone is great! I complained a few days ago about returning to the combat and mechanics of TW3 being a disappointment after playing HZD, but re-familiarizing after like a year since finished the base game has helped -- mostly remembering that this is an easy game, mashing buttons and just using health potions will suffice in most cases without worrying about all the other poo poo.
